One of the wildest Christmas movies I've ever seen and very funny Favorite scene when the elves attack a gang of thugs Kurt Russell gives a good performance and it was nice seeing Goldie Hawn in a brief cameo

Russell puts a nice spin on the character, he really made it his own. I'd much rather him as Jack Burton or Snake Plisskin saving Christmas--imagine that. But this was a perfectly acceptable flick, even if it treads the same ground as a whole slew of other Christmas movies, some of which are already well entrenched into holiday traditions. That jail scene was pretty nuts/awesome.

A goofy "save Christmas" adventure for kids that never strays far from the safe and expected formula, but also isn't overly annoying, making it a mostly inoffensive mixed bag. While Kurt Russell as Santa Claus is pretty decent (with a couple of genuinely funny moments)...the musical number needlessly thrown into the middle of the film is just atrocious.

It's a cheesy, predictable Christmas movie, but it's definitely good for the genre. Kurt Russell makes for an amazing Santa - this is a pretty unique take on the character and mythology too. I loved seeing Santa's workshop and the imaginative vision of the inside of his gift sack.

All points are for Kurt Russell. The whole dead dad thing was a no go for me. I'll watch the second one purely because Julian Dennison is apparently in it. Oh yeah, Kurt Russell sang.

The Christmas Chronicles is inoffensive Xmas fluff that despite a few sweet moments leaves no lasting impression the second the credits role. Russell leads what (in days gone by) would be a TV movie in almost every aspect; mediocre acting, cheesy dialogue, a recently deceased parent as a cheap ploy for sympathy. The CGI is decent, though the elves were creepy. Definitely not a Xmas classic, nor a particularly good film, but fills it place as a new but familiar holiday film.

{{ CHRISTMAS MOVIE MARATHON - DAY 8 )) My man Kurt Russell shines as jolly St. Nick in this watchable Yuletide film. It has an Adventures in Babysitting vibe going on, (roaming the streets of Chicago, being brought to a chop shop by gang members, racing home before the mom arrives, impromptu concert) which makes since as it was produced by Chris Columbus. The film is at it's strongest whenever Russell is on screen, but there's some good Christmas magic throughout.

It really can't be stated just how perfect Kurt Russell is for the role. He is the one bright spot in an otherwise subpar movie. The biggest most glaring problem is the screenplay. A lot of the dialogue is absolutely cringeworthy. Still it's a rather charming movie, but mostly it feels like a missed opportunity with lots of potential left on the table.

Eh, it's a cute Christmas movie alright. The kids annoyed me and the CGI was trash, but it wasn't awful really, I'm sure kids would love it.

Kurt Russell makes an amazing Santa Claus lookalike in this family Christmas movie. The child actors are okay but all the other characters aren't great, except for Vella Lovell. The elves were cute at first, then resembled Gremlins in the garage. I saw the trailer for the sequel and I'm not looking forward to the overuse of CG. Fav scene: Santa speaking to a couple in Hindi and the guy replies, "I speak English, you _____."

Like most people, I enjoyed Kurt Russell's performance. I wasn't that big of a fan of the rest of it though. For me, it was a one-and-done kind of film but my wife loved it so most likely I'll be watching it again.

Only Kurt Russell makes this work. Which makes sense because it's a movie whose central idea is Kurt Russell as Santa Claus as Kurt Russell. This is a thing I needed. And that mid-movie full blown blues rock Christmas musical number with Kurt himself belting it out?? I needed that even more. Everything else in this movie is almost intentionally irrelevant. Except the elves. Those were a miserable misfire and I hated them. The elves were talking cats. Basically.

It's in the same vain as Home Alone and The Santa Clause so if you like those movies you'd probably enjoy this. It's very cheesy, predictable, and has too many pointless subplots that disappear almost as soon as they show up, but it's still rather likable and has the Christmas atmosphere. Plus Kurt Russell makes a pretty good Santa Claus.

Kurt Russell does a fine job here in the lead role. The story is predictable but it has a lot of fun moments. This is a fun time waster that is good for the whole family for Christmas. Overall I would recommend this movie.

A very pleasant movie thanks to the catchy premise, a very good casting choice in Kurt Russell and some good laughs. The visuals are pretty good and the two kids (Judah Lewis and Darby Camp) rather convincing. Of course, it's also a very predictable, by-the-numbers film that's drenched in cliches and cheesiness. Expected that factor might be but had they toned it down a bit we could have had a new holiday classic.

It's a bit too cutesy for its own good, but when it works, it works. Kurt Russell is a five-star Santa. It has the spirit of Christmas running all through with original delivery and an exciting fantastical story to go along with it. It has all the predictability of any old movie you'll watch this month, but come on. It's Christmas. What are the holidays for?

Kurt Russell playing Santa Claus like an arrogant '80s action hero is the reason for the season. The rest is boilerplate Netflix content, sadly.

I love a good story about Santa and it's so rare that they get it right. This one is definitely one of the best Christmas movies out there and I can recommend it wholeheartedly, especially if you want to see how the real Santa works in action. It's good for you and your family as well if you want to see a nice movie for Christmas.

Going for a cool fun Santa instead of the standard jolly friendly one is an inspired choice. Kurt Russel really shines in the role. The movie does falter a bit when he's not on screen, especially during a the segment with CGI-elves that are more creepy than cute and funny. Still one of the better Christmas movies I saw this year (so far).

Kurt Russell as Santa Clause should be much cooler than he is in this film. What I wanted was a jolly version of Snake Pliskin or at the very least Jack Burton in a red suit instead of a singlet. But I don't blame Russell; the whole film is lame and internally inconsistent, and thus Lieberman and Guggenheim are at fault. It's predictable and preachy; the opening 'camcorder' scenes are nauseating in their fetishisation of the nuclear family. Although I must admit to liking the CGI reindeer.

It's an enjoyable enough night of but I simply had no patience for a swarm of CGI elves that had no agency or function beyond fixing things and looking cute. That's not completely true, one of them was murderous. Actually, the more I think about this movie (the jail rock, the problem was not actually a problem) I less I like it. A bit of a shame, Kurt Russel was a lot of fun.

Despite my rating, this is not a terrible movie, but not really a good movie either. Probably best for the tween crowd. Some disturbing, violent elfs, a car chase scene that doesn't seem to work in a Christmas movie, a car theft with no repercussions, and a weird jailhouse scene made things a bit difficult to digest. Santa's place in the North Pole was really neat.
