Teresa Palmer is incredibly gorgeous & I enjoyed her sassy performance immensely. There are a few other beautiful women also. Benjamin Walker was charismatic & entertaining. Great production quality, music & sound. Good acting performances. The writing is mostly smart & interesting. It's messy, like real life. The first three quarters was engaging & interesting. The ending lost all its charm & drags it down significantly. It should have ended just prior to the accident.

I overwhelmingly prefer this over The Notebook, because at least in The Choice, only the other lead is obnoxious. It still isn't enough for it to be a great movie. I'm baffled by the complete tonal and pacing shift that happened in the 3rd act. Which ultimately affected nothing in the end and felt like I was being hustled into squeezing out a tear. It was so forced, I could've only mustered a tear of cringe. Points mostly for that goshdarned Southern charm that got me.

Spoiler alert! First somewhat 60 minutes was cute. Then it turns into something so emotional that no matter how it ends it's awful. An unhappy ending is too sad, and in this case the happy ending is way passed cute or romantic - it's just too much. *Okay

Starts out as generally generic Nicholas Sparks schlock then takes a wild, hilarious left turn into something way worse, some fucking car crash coma bullshit, pure uncreative soap opera drivel. These Sparks flicks always have some real boring sex scenes, what's a guy gotta do to get a little soft core nudity to liven this shit up?!

For a Nicholas Sparks film, it wasn't half bad. The performances were decent enough and the first three quarters of the film was a watchable rom-drama. It completely falls apart in the last act when it outstays its welcome and is just played out for emotions sake. It's almost like they thought "the choice" wasn't resonating enough, so threw in another "sure, that makes sense" scenario to hammer it home.

There's always a complicated romance between two people who are mad at each and then mad about each other. And often, for whatever reason, they just can't quite admit what's going on. Usually a main character dies, is dying, almost dies or is living under the shadow of someone who has already died. (pluggedin.com)

Pretty to look at, not much else.

Nicholas Sparks' take on the Million Dollar Baby twist is of course pretty god-awful. The initial taint of infidelity dooms the romantic proceedings from the start, but the car crash induced coma is where it starts to get grossly (and ineffectually) manipulative. Benjamin Walker of all people tries to carry the film on whatever charm he can muster, but to no avail (Wilkinson on the other hand phones it in, and no one can blame him).

The Choice is trash. All of the expected elements are there - these things are all just slight variations on several key ideas anyway - but the details make it almost unwatchable - and it's not a short movie, either, clocking in at 110 minutes in length. Bad acting, terrible scripting, uninteresting direction with a few baffling and uncomfortable moments, and emotional manipulation up the wazoo lead to one of the worst theatrical experiences you can have.
