Landon's second film as director, THE CHASER (1928) is a dark, slightly kinky comedy in which a carousing Harry is ordered by a judge to swap domestic duties (and clothing) with his wife. Deprived of his manliness, Harry contemplates suicide while coping with flirtatious salesmen and the scorn of a former comrade. (Amazon.com)

After the unrelentingly on-the-nose go at Chaplinesque pathos in Three's a Crowd, had turned people off, Langdon and First National still had two more pictures contracted to produce and limp through the gate. (Oh, and the one after this has gone missing.) Let's see if Harry can win them back over with something more old-fashioned, shall we? I hope you like slow, disconnected stage bits playing to the camera! Bud Jamison and that Lloyd impersonator remind... I think I'd rather watch Lloyd.

Don't get fooled by Harry Langdon's dim-witted gaze, there is a striking darkness to his questionably mentality which makes The Chaser (1928) incredibly fascinating! The jokes aren't always burst out funny, but the gag choices are often.... different...and that's why I loved parts of this. Far from his best comedy, and definitely not one his comedies with the widest appeal, but it suited my sense of humor.
