Warner throwing cash and horses at getting some of that Lives of a Bengal Lancer money. There's "production value", and a great many men trotting around the Sierra Nevada, though reputation rests on the scale of the ending that birthed a new round of animal cruelty regulations. Mostly, thrill as our flat brothers natter on about their dull love triangle, and marvel at how they managed to get a north Indian massacre out of a poem about the Crimean War. Great Max Steiner score, though.

The final sequence was INSANE! Few movies have actually made the US Congress get off their ass and work passing a animal rights law! 25 fucking horses died to get the best possible shots of of falling warriors! And the shot was spectacular! Horses and people where falling brutally to the ground! This scene was so reckless that even people died! A stunt man landed on a broken sword on one of the trip-wire shots and was killed. And looking at the all the dramatic falls its a wonder not more died!

Bears almost no relation to the 1960s remake, focusing instead on entertainment over the political realities. The title scene is justly recognize as a thrilling action spectacle --it better be considering how many poor horses must've been destroyed. Can't say this was one of the more fruitful De Havilland/Flynn pairings though; neither actor was given much to work with.

After a quite slow start, it picks up halfway through until an absolutely thrilling last act.
