It's like a giallo-inspired premonition of River's Edge. Sad and lonely exploits of a man who has nothing, the piling of bodies becomes grimly tragicomic, and the last twenty minutes pack a serious punch.

Despite a half-dozen gory slayings, Iglesia's excellent, if radically misnomered, movie exudes more sadness than horror. This is quite unlike any American film dealing with the subject matter; rather than experiencing psychotic glee, extreme remorse, or alienated indifference, Marcos settles instead into a dull depression alleviated only by his melancholy homosexual neighbor's platonic (or at least sublimated) overtures, this movie is well worth seeking out.

Things escalate and spiral out of control in this 1970s cult flick.

A little too slow, not gory enough and the English dub was annoying as hell, but still a pretty good film. The slowness might not have mattered without the distracting awful dubbing though. Was also confused about the weird sexual tension between him and his neighbour, but it kind of helped.

I really enjoyed the backwards pace of this oddball minor-key Spanish film, which sees the bodies drop early in grisly fashion while gradually drying down to a slow, smoldering study in mood. I never really know who the target audience is for stuff like this; it's too broad-handed to fully function as a social commentary piece, but too finespun to work simply as schlocky grindhouse fare.

"Suspenseful, disturbing, and graphically violent, the film succeeds in its depictions of both physical and psychological horror."

Plodding and kinda boring for long stretches. Misleading title, too.
