The Candy Snatchers

About as lighthearted as a genocide. Bleak to the bitter end but well acted and paced. I would nominate it for date night when you are ready to move on.

Those people wishing they were born earlier- don't fucking pick anything thatll put you in the 70s probably the worst decade to do anything in - everything is a nightmare. Being an autistic / nonverbal child in the 70s was an adventure.

A surprisingly competent and satisfying number that just about lurches out of its exploitation makings into something with broader appeal. It definitely still feels a bit grindhouse, because everyone seems to be shouting all the time, and there's plenty of violence chucked in for good measure. Probably deserves to be better known. A wonderfully bleak and unpredictable little treat.

A joyously bleak vision. One of the most effective of the 'best laid plans' crime films, probably because this one is told from the perspective of an abused autistic child. I loved every minute of this circle of hell.

very bleak. Reminded me a lot of blood simple. That tracking shot at the end is just great in its brutality.

Surprisingly decent acting, nice photography, and a tautly-woven, perfectly paced script make for a film that is very well aware of its exploitation milieu but harbors ambitions to rise above. Amazing that this was Guerdon Trueblood's only directorial credit.
