A beautiful showgirl, name "the Canary" is a scheming nightclub singer. Blackmailing is her game and with that she ends up dead. But who killed "the Canary". All the suspects knew and were used by her and everyone had a motive to see her dead. The only witness to the crime has also been 'rubbed out'. Only one man, the keen, fascinating, debonair detective Philo Vance, would be able to figure out who is the killer. (imdb)

Painfully stilted due to technology at the time. However, William Powell still has a nice twinkle in his eyes, there's a few interesting ideas, and, hell, Louise Brooks.

Pretty standard mystery which I solved at around the halfway point. The half sound half silent mishmash really hurt the already mediocre film. William Powell and Eugene Pallette are the highlights

So so so boring. William Powell brings the only source of enjoyment here, and not even he can fix this shit. Although I must admit that final death really surprised me, go watch the Thin Man series if you want a good whodunit, and if for some reason you’ll like an early talkie, The Greene Murder Case is better.
