Raj is a rich, carefree, happy-go-lucky second generation NRI. Simran is the daughter of Chaudhary Baldev Singh, who in spite of being an NRI is very strict about adherence to Indian values. The two meet on a month long Eurotrip, and what began as pranks and fun and games, ends in love. But by the time they realize it, it is already too late, as Simran has left for India to be married to her childhood fiancé. (imdb)

If you can sit through the entire thing. You will witness the most epic thumbs-up I have ever recalled seeing on film.

Overblown romantic musical, but it's not too bad. The characters are sympathetic enough and the music kind of catchy, but in the second half the plot contrivances keep increasing and the resolution is really sloppy.

One of the most popular Bollywood movies (possibly the most popular...) and it's a movie all about falling in love with someone who is..a big jerk! Raj spends half of the film torturing Simran and Simran is a dull character who is portrayed as a bitchy bookworm when all she wants is someone who doesn't annoy the hell out of her. Anyway...it's a decent popcorn movie and it even has a hilariously badly choreographed fight scene near the end. Well, at least it's not a rip-off.

The first half was promising a really nice movie, but apparently they realized towards the middle that they still had plenty of Bollywood clichés they didn't use yet. which made the second half quite tedious.

Perhaps the defining Bollywood film of the '90s, and a truly competent and well-crafted (and well-balanced) romance. Under the surface, there's a lot of interesting dynamics at play in the film as India emerges as a global force in the neoliberal age.
