The Borderlands

Surprisingly solid found footage movie. Suffers a bit from apparent lack of budget. Also feels somewhat like they came up with a great ending to a movie and had to figure out how to get there. Real solid first effort from these guys and I'm curious to see what they can do with more experience and more cash. Rewatch: Still pretty good, has some real good scenes. Apparently what they were able to do with more cash and more experience was to never make another movie, too bad.

Also known as Final Prayer in North America (final implying the last thing you do before you die; prayer implying something you do in a church...where you die) where distributors thought the title "Borderlands" obviously wasn't church-y enough for a movie taking place in a church despite the fact there's also a big-ass crucifix-shaped church on the poster. Though, SPOILERS I think the last scene takes place in the devil's anus. Which pretty much sums up Sunday School for me when I was seven.

Very solid horror flick that, while resting on familiar ground, builds a palpable sense of dread and tension; in part thanks to the good use of confined spaces and the found footage format.

it takes a while to get anywhere interesting, and even then it isn't particularly original. but the ending has some weird and very creepy value, however i can't say that i understand it yet.

Solidly average found footage. Takes far too long to get going, too little actually happens overall - it could be one of those stories where nothing happens but the ending just feels right and in hindsight it makes perfect sense - but in this case it's just not that good.

The pagan/religious themes, combined with a decent cast and general well-done-ness mostly overwhelmed my found-footage fatigue. The dynamics between scientific, sceptical priests and a believing 'spiritual not religious' type were fun. Despite all of that the ending brought on a fit of the giggles that I'm sure wasn't intended.

This is probably a very good found-footage film, but I'm just not a big fan of the genre.

Honestly enjoyed this a whole lot more than I was expecting to. I found the characters compelling but the ending more funny than anything else.

Similar to Blair Witch Project but using CCTVs to record the paranormal. Its mystique lies in blending religious history, esoteric symbolism, and atheistic modernity. Love its laidback English country setting, which heightens the thrill and somehow lends credence to the story especially the end part, which pushed me to search the net if it ever happened in real life. MY SCORING: 99-96=Great; 95-90=Very good; 89-85=Good; 84-80=So-so; 79-70=Boring; 69-1=Forget it

Another "found footage" film that confuses boredom with atmosphere and tries to be clever but always falls flat. It is like a peek into the neurotic mind where the Dunning-Kruger cases think that they are fascinating, but in fact they are just neurotic, stupid, and inane. This makes this film completely tedious and obliterates any sense of mystery, so the ending that comes rushing at you is such an afterthought that you might not notice it.
