The Boogeyman

For all its supposed Video Nasty pedigree, The Boogeyman looks tame today. That's not necessarily because the gore is bad, but more because it doesn't DO anything. The movie makes no sense, builds no suspense, and I can't even be bothered to finish that rhyme. It's a slasher movie where you could remove every single kill and it wouldn't change the plot one bit. Dull.

There's 3 good bits - the Halloween rip-off title song, the kid's death by window, and the time the girl is possessed by the mirror Boogeyman and is forced to kill herself with the pair of scissors but not before she slices open her top for a gratuitous tit shot

A pretty tame "video nasty", not worth bothering with apart from a few almost-interesting moments. Clumsy, and largely rubbish. For "nasty" completists only, I'd suggest.

The Video Nasties list is a motley bunch of films from what I've seen, from the great to those like this which would have been completely forgotten were it not for its inclusion on this list. It's a film about a mirror possessed by a vengeful spirit, but most of it is set up and uninteresting drama, undermining the structure of it. It gets vaguely interesting when things pick up at the ending, but frankly it's another disinteresting horror film I have to sieve through to find the good ones.

Every single civilization from the dawn of man has had a morality play or urban legend or old wives' tale in order to help young people to remember to check their shoes for mirror shards, and this happens to be ours.

Quite different from Lommel’s previous “Tenderness of Wolves”; as this is sleazy and ridiculous, but not without merits. It looks good and the direction is not half bad. Suzanna Love is quite sympathetic as the lead and the film has a nice early 80’s feel to it. If you expect a proper slasher (like it is often labeled), you will most likely be disappointed; it’s closer to Exorcist-rips or Amityville DTV sequels. It could have been a lot better, but still worth a watch for fans of 80’s horror.

I’m positive this was the only video nasty on there for being boring as all hell. Worth the slog for the dashes of synth throughout.

Pretty Bad Movie

Watched many years ago in adolescence, and, though my memory is imperfect, it did leave an impression as being unusually imaginative in a way that did manage to conjure a feeling of the uncanny.

This was a poorly made, poorly acted snoozefest.

Boring.

Goodness this is awful. Bad acting, terribly written plot, a clumsy pace, a bunch of random characters who have to die because reasons, comedy that doesn't work even a little bit...it's kind of sad what a disaster this is, really. The premise itself is honestly not bad & in more capable hands could've made for an honest cult classic. Unfortunately, it was mishandled in every possible way & suffers as a result. It kills a kid, which I guess is...something. Don't go out of your way to see this.
