Buster's handmade boat, The Damfino, is finished and is, of course, too large to get through the basement door. When he drives off with it in tow, the side of his house, then the whole thing, collapses. At the harbor he rides the boat out only to have it sink beneath him. The rest is a series of adventures he and his family have with the restored boat. (imdb)

The first half of this is great and had me laughing out loud. The second half isn't nearly as good and aside from the boat rolling most of the gags are just slightly above average.

Keaton, with kids in tow (could this be made today?), have an adventure on a boat. The ship's name was bugging me because it seemed very odd, but there was a payoff! It's more gags-put-together than a full story, but still enough to make you think this was the original Griswold family adventure.

Brilliant assemblage of gags, enacted to often awe-inspiring perfection by Keaton, never lets up and remains consistently hilarious (and heartfelt) from start to finish - 'Damfino' is a witty (and surprising) verbal gag to end on, but the boat launch itself (plus the rolling, washing machine-like mid-sequence) are just as inspired.

Maybe a bit more repetitive than some of Keaton's absolute best, but still great fun after the style of "One Week". I didn't think there were many creative angles left to explore in the old rocking boat gag, but Keaton certainly managed to find them.

I feel the same way about Buster Keaton as I do about the Marx Brothers. He doesn't make me laugh out loud, but his proficiency astounds me. Keaton's adroitness with blocking, staging, and timing amazes me every time.

Another lost Keaton film found. I have to wonder if Keaton wouldn't have been happer if this one had remained lost. The only humor that got a chuckle from me were the "Damfino" gags.

this one has got some laughs missing in it and it seems somewhat slow. it could have easily had about half of it trimmed down and still not lived up to the best of keaton's work.
