I was disappointed with this movie. Each and everyone in this movie is unlikable and I wasn't a fan of this story or how it was filmed.

Just too damn nice for its own good, and not very entertaining to boot. It takes an awful lot to make Cary Grant boring, but this film manages to do it; the film is too content with the "smiling handsome guy" part of him and takes out everything that made him worthwhile. Wastes Niven too, for that matter. The score is also unbearably syrupy, insisting at all moments that what we're seeing is very moving and magical indeed. I can't say that it's BAD, but it's underwhelming from top to bottom.

A trite, heavy-handed comedy about an angel sent from heaven to help a bishop and his wife build a cathedral at Christmas-time. One of the worst best picture oscar nominees that I have seen. Comes down to the angel doing little tricks that baffle and motivate the rest of the cast of characters. Rinse and repeat until you get to the expected happy ending. It's a Wonderful Life did a similar story much better one year before this bore saw the light of day.

Cosy film which I mistakenly watched several days after Christmas. Grant goes through the motions, and it's testament to his unique and immense skills that his angel character stays (barely) the right side of creepy. Niven is very good and steals every scene; Loretta Young is not.

Some might find this to have a morally interesting plot, but I found Cary Grant's angel to just be an asshole most of the time.

Sweet-natured Christmas fantasy. One of Hollywood's many postwar fantasies full of angels and ghosts and one of the best with solid casting and a sentimental but well-written script.

A charming little film that tells a story, delivers a message, and leaves you feeling warm and cozy after it has finished.

Cary Grant can be my angel, but I'm afraid I'd be just as, if not more, grumpy than David Niven if he hit of my wife like that. Such a smooth worker! He delivers that patented Cary Grant charm you can't live without.

I'm with Bishop Brougham, this Dudley fellow is the Devil incarnate, a duplicitous know-it-all. My issue with this film is that when Brougham is supposed to be in the wrong, I think he is in he right, and the complete opposite for Dudley, which I don't think is the intention of Koster. Niven is much more likeable than Grant in this movie (again, likely not Koster's intent). But the special effects are cool and the chair scene is pretty funny.

A charming movie for any season, not just the holidays. The special effects are laudable, given the era.

Regarded as a Christmas classic I guess, but can easily be digested throughout the whole year. Grant works his charm. - Good

The Bishop's Wife may suffer from the lack of consistency but it's one of the most amazing Christmas movies, no doubts.

Mild, slight, yet entertaining. I was alienated from the Bishop himself, though, and that's the ultimate weakness of the film.

Engaging performances by all -- and fun to see children from _It's a Wonderful Life_, Karolyn Grimes and Bobby Anderson, appearing together.

A good scary bit at the beginning, utterly dull thereafter
