Low-key reworking of BICYCLE THIEVES functions as a fair critique of the modern “gig” economy, and the perilous and fraught conditions its workers deal with; while it is well acted (and showcases Secareanu as a talent to watch), it lacks the sense of urgency and desperation required, as well as the poignancy of the familial dynamic that marked the earlier film. There are also too many irrelevant wanderings that slacken the tension. Still while its imperfect, it does remain engaging throughout.
