The Big Snooze

Clampett finally got a handle on Bugs! This short feels pretty damn dark for Bugs Bunny, which I enjoyed, but I found its gags predictable and old hat. I still like seeing the staff have fun with their creation, though.

Clampett is way, way out there in his last cartoon for Warner, with his famously wacky style cranked way up into careless, faintly disturbing territory. It's memorable, but after surprises like Porky In Wackyland, Russian Rhapsody, Baby Bottleneck and The Great Piggy Bank Robbery, the surreality now feels cultivated and predictable.
