Loose imitation of the real life of soldiers in the ruins of post-war Germany. Montgomery Clift had already done one of these type of pictures with The Search (1948), though The Big Lift (1950) was a lot more empty, and feels a lot more like improvisation than working a script. With him he's got Paul Douglas, who looked too comical for this film. This film just felt rough overall.
