The monster doesn't show up until the last 20 minutes, there is no indication of any monster at all leading up to this. Kidney stone metaphor here.

Uninteresting and mostly uneventful western drama bizarrely interrupted by a dinosaur appearing in the last twenty minutes and attacking people. Somehow even the dinosaur is uninteresting, which is a cardinal sin in my mind.

This movie thinks someone who explicitly drinks to forget his dead wife and neglects his child in the process makes both great comic relief and a great victim. It thinks that an arrogant American who moves into a small town and undercuts local merchants makes a great hero. But most of all, it thinks that this draggy bullshit makes such an intense story that we won't miss the monster action until the last twenty minutes. It's fun when it gets there, but hoo boy.

Jurassic Park 0. Once the dinosaur shows up, it's... pretty silly but at least decent stop-motion action. You just have to wait a LONG time for that to happen.

It actually wasn't terrible until the beast showed up. Though, that might have just been MST3K helping. MST3K: 80

Basically nothing happens for almost the entire film. Seriously, it seems to be going out of its way to be boring.

So uneventful and dull i got anxious rage waiting for something to happen, and that's with the mst3k commentary keeping me afloat. By the time the stupid ranch drama gets its way to the monster i dont care anymore. I don't care about the monster i dont care about the characters i don't care about the cows.

Mixing giant monsters with other action genres is a great way to get over the hump of the slow build to the third act rampage structure these types of movies typically rely on. So adding in some western soap antics makes it a decent enough time killer on its own, but the actual beast sequences are a ton of fun.
