The Beanie Bubble

Galifianakis plays a great wormy bastard here.

The Beanie Bubble takes a non-linear approach to tell its story, but I'm not confident it sticks the landing. The opening narration states this isn't a film about Ty, but about the 3 women...I'm not sure I buy that. The film ends on a female empowerment high with text noting Ty was convicted of tax evasion; it fails to add the avoided jail sentence. Ultimately it just affirms a "greed is good" narrative. Galifianakis & Viswanathan are good, but the film doesn't say anything worthwhile.

2023 is the year of the corporate biopic, and honestly I'm kind of here for it. The 4 leads are very enjoyable. I've been a fan of Geraldine Viswanathan since season 1 of Miracle Workers, and The Beanie Bubble continues to prove that she needs her own starring vehicle. I'm always down for a good needle drop, and this has several. Yes it's kind of predictable, and not always the most historically accurate, but ultimately I guess I'm just a sucker for this genre/style of film.

9 TO 5 meets '90s nostalgia in this very watchable but ultimately uninspired take on difficult bosses. Zack G. and Geraldine V. are both very funny and steal the movie.

The acting is good, especially Zach, the story is interesting, the structure seems complex but it is written and edited really well and doesn’t get confusing at all. A decent film about an interesting story.

Not good but perfectly watchable. Everything on Apple TV+ seems to fly totally under the radar even if they put stars in it, but in this case people aren't missing too much.
