The Backwoods

I don't like "Straw Dogs", and this is basically SD-lite. I have no idea what the hell Oldman and Considine were doing in this, other than wasting their time and talent.

A wildly engrossing film; primarily driven by Gary Oldman subtle performance -- which is no surprise. Additionally, the rest of the cast provides tense and suspenseful moments due to their disparate ethnicities leading to different reactions under a stressful time. A rather banal story improved by the blurred line between good versus evil, nevertheless an un-established plot and background devolves much of the motives in each of the main characters, into the darkness of that rainy night.

A strange auld fish, this one. 'Let's set it in the Basque region, in the 1970's, because that's the only way the story works... wait a minute...'

There's just not much here.
