A chilling drama that explores and exposes the dark side of the American Dream, this film focuses on the prescient and tragic true story of Sam Bicke (Penn), a disillusioned "everyman" who, in 1974, was driven to plot the assassination of the 37th President of the United States. (ThinkFilm)

An underappreciated film; Cronenberg meets Arthur Miller. The best of the new glut of political Penn performances.

Good movie about a man who is desperated and keen to make stupid things to make world a little bit better place to live. Script is a bit weak and other cast than Penn are really left to bakground. Its not very lenghty movie and this is good decision from debut director Mueller.

The Assassination of Richard Nixon is a boring film about a man who was too stupid to help himself in his life. As a result, he tried to kill the president of the United States. The acting is good, but the only character that got enough screentime was Sean Penn's, despite his character being the least interesting of the batch. I also didn't feel like I was back in the 1970s, which meant the immersion needed wasn't there.

Interesting enough, but suffered from awkward pacing and lowly direction. The great thing about this is that Sean Penn can play a creep so incredibly perfect with just the right amount of tension that it puts the viewer in a terribly uncomfortable place that is hard to escape. The short run time of 95 minutes was rushed and needed another half hour to really explore the person that Sam Bicke was. I was craving for the always enjoyable Naomi Watts to be used more as well. Still a decent film.

A high-resolution character study made watchable by the great performance of the lead actor. Might need to watch it again to appreciate it more. Guess I missed a lot of it. There was so much details/information.

Brilliant. At one point you want him to succeed.

Interesting how he planned to hijack an airliner and crash it into a US government building in 1974, yet after 911 the US gov claimed to have never considered the scenario where a hijacked plane could be used to attack a government building.

It is not a movie of great emotions, even that they are real facts, however it is worthwhile only for the acting of Sean Penn.

Penn plays Penn again (not that I have anything against typecasting) in a slow, agonizing movie. If you appreciate elegic visuals and the story of a loser, this may be for you, though I'd rather watch Dead Man Walking one more time. Or Taxi Driver.

Far too much room to watch Sean Penn cry. A bit disastrous giving Penn's character the same name as in "I Am Sam".
