Enjoyable thriller is marred a bit by Thompson's journeyman direction, and a typically sleepy 80s Mitchum performance, but Burstyn and (perhaps surprisingly) Hudson are terrific. Political pretensions are another misstep, and the surprisingly savage brutality of a climactic confrontation almost leaves a bitter aftertaste.
