The Amazing Maurice

This is a fun family friendly film with a great voice cast including Hugh Laurie, Emilia Clakre, David Tennant and David Thewlis (Hugh Laurie I thought was particularly good!). Its a bit meta I suppose, so quite contemporary in its own way. I enjoyed that it doesn't take itself too seriously. There's some amusing dialogue and its a fun enjoyable watch, so yes, I'd recommend it.

The Amazing Maurice is a fun, colourful ride with solid animation, an excellent voice cast and a good sense of humour. Thewlis does evil well; Laurie is entertainingly energetic; Clarke is always a delight...the cast is recognisable but fitting (dodging that pitfall). The story isn't particularly complex but the humour is woven throughout the film rather than just a barrage of jokes, in typical Pratchett style. Definitely aimed at younger children, but not unenjoyable for adults.

It has some pacing issues, but the humor and social commentary are strong in this, and that's hardly surprising given it's Pratchett's writing.

Surprisingly well-made and rather intelligent.

Not unpleasant, if not extraordinary in any way, bar perhaps some very good voice work.
