Contains one of the funniest moments I've ever seen in movies: when da boys have gathered together to plot their heist, and Bogie tells one of 'em to "put on da noise" to mask their machinations. So the guy goes over to the Victrola, flips it on...and instead of some wild jazz or something blaring out, it's Mozart. And they're all talking about nabbin' da ice with this minuet music playing in the background (I'm just glad I wasn't stoned or I'd still be laughing to this day).

Interesting, but a bit unintentionally campy with the absurd half-baked scientific angle. The Doctor wasn't so much amazing as lucky to get away with what he did. I felt bad for Humphrey Bogart's character (I don't think he was any more evil than Dr. C himself) and it was neat to see Bogart relatively young here (although he must have been close to 40 years old.)

Fun, entertaining film, an unusual mix of mad scientist and gangster genres. I love Robinson in comic roles, too bad there aren't too many of them. Bogart has that tough guy accent that never fails to amuse.

Edward G. Robinson is great in this film. The film revolves around a doctor who is intrigued by the world of crime. The script is original and has some great moments, the court room scene at the end is a bit much. Humphrey Bogart is also good here in a supporting role.

I guess this is the closest we'll get to a 'mad professor' horror movie in 1938. A period when horror movies was more or less banned, so it's not exactly horrific. More a comic approach with hints of coldness as Dr. Edward G. Robinson decides to do detailed research on criminology. That's why he sets up a connection with a organized gang where Humphrey Bogart becomes his main problem. It's entertaining in it's unusualness and light hearted take on crime. It's amusing.

A highly unusual film. I would say Dr. Clitterhouse is autistic or OCD like that guy on the tv show Monk, but he goes through life w/ ease & flair. I'd say he was a sociopath, but his motivations are always pure. He's actually part mad scientist and part Sherlock Holmes & the movie would work much better if some of his solutions didn't feel like the result of luck or writer's contrivance. However, the way his over-the-top perfection rubs against 30's cops & robbers is entertaining & even funny.

Tuned in for the hilarious name "Clitterhouse", stayed for the Bogie and Ed Robinson. Entertaining.

Dreadful title, ridiculous premise, slick dialogue and paradol chloride.
