Dawn, the forest. André is waking up. Soon, Wally is taunting him. André points the other way and, with Wally temporarily distracted, runs off. Wally quickly catches on and chases André; off camera, we hear a scream, and Wally flies back with a bent stinger. (imdb)

A historical curio, nothing more. Writing this review took longer than watching it.

Just a demo when compared to Pixar's other short movies. The CGI is, of course, very primitive and undetailed renders, and the comedy is just silly Looney Tunes level stuff. Still an important piece of computer animation history that shows the potential it would deliver on later in spades.

An animation experiment, but one that rips off the character traits of a bunch of other studios in less than 2 minutes. Disney hands, Goofy's trademark scream, Bugs Bunny's eyebrow shrug... These characters offer nothing of interest and come off as irritating. The trees look good and the initial pan-down is impressive considering the date - but the rest is forgettable. Thankfully Pixar's narrative strength and animation style would develop far beyond these 'humble' beginnings.

Boy, Pixar have come a long way since this... or have they?

Technologically groundbreaking, but you can tell that the story and comedy were not where the effort was placed.

Wish it were 2 minutes shorter… Though this is a must see to witness how far Pixar has come.

Mostly interesting because of what can now be called the primitive beginnings of Pixar. I mean, at the time the animation would have been superb, but there's nothing else here.

The most adventuresome thing about this short Pixar film is that it was made in 1984. I was shocked when I found out this was so old. So now, my notes on how bad the animation is, needs to be thrown out. Now, ignoring the graphics which aren't bad for the time,...

Pixar has come so far. Very little here other than a test for the software. The sound was horribly obtrusive, too. Still impressive to see animation this good for the time, though.

A relatively low score but it reflects how little can really be drawn from this short by Pixar. Their very first, it serves as more of a technical demonstration than a real short. The plot is simplistic, though for 1984 the animation is stunning. The art direction is a little offputting and ugly, and the sound design leaves a lot to be desired- it's overused. Giving it a numerical value purely because I know what's to come, and what would be improved.

Well, it is what it is, an original technical demo (in 1984 it wasn't that usual to use storytelling to show the quality of your system). It also has some tender side if you think about it as the beginning of something really big. But being honest, it's just a bad one-gag short not specially funny, but I'm sure they never even thought it would reach a big audience. It's like "La Sortie des usines Lumière" (1895) in CG storytelling.

Surprisingly ugly even for Pixar's first shortie and no plot at all. Nice music though.

Decent for what it is, just comes off as more of an experiment with 3D animation.

Simply putting classical music to accompany your short doesn't automatically make it some grand film. It's not terrible but it is pretty mediocre.
