The Adventurers

This Ringo Lam film has a distinctively Johnny To feel to it. This was not at all what I was expecting and the story is a convoluted mess but it was a very entertaining mess with lots of weird tonal shifts was odd times, like the comedic beats during a shootout featuring Andy Lau and a nude Wu Chien-Lien.

What I thought was going to be some kind of B-grade Hong Kong Top Gun ended up being a by-the-numbers "infiltrate the criminal underworld to kill the baddie" epic - which is not bad by any stretch, just not extraordinary. I was surprised by the strength of the female leads, the excellent Rosamund Kwan and Chien-lien Wu, who perhaps carry the film even more than Lau.
