I saw the version that unfortunately "updates" the stop-motion animation with computer animation, to make it smoother. I like the original herky-jerky handcrafted Harryhausen animation please!

I don't think anyone really comes to this movie for the plot, which is a decent if highly contrived device for delivering Ray Harryhausen's effects. They are more than reason enough. He delivers cyclopses, giant birds, sword fighting skeletons, a dancing snake woman and sword fighting skeletons ... all in colour for the first time. It's magnificent work. What's almost up to the standards of the effects is Bernard Herrmann's rousing score. Really great adventure movie music.

With a haphazard plot and acting that leaves everything to be desired, you wanna watch this for the Harryhausen effects. Either to admire the early work of an artist who would inspire later generations of filmmakers, or to snigger about what people back then found impressive. Your choice.

Ray Harryhausen's masterpiece and wall-to-wall magic. The creatures are astonishing - show me a CGI being with the personality of the cyclops on the beach - and while most of the acting is somewhat wooden, Torino Thatcher is a splendid villain. Brilliant Bernard Herrmann score and perfect pacing - this one does not get old.

It's quick, silly, and fun to see the elaborate sets, costumes, and effects for its time.

A fun bit of fantasy adventure. Would be utterly forgettable without Harryhausen's special effects.

I don't think anyone would really want to see this if not for special effects created by claymation wizard Harryhousen. This movie has the most useless genie I have ever seen or read about! Imagine yourself trapped in a cave with fucking fire-breathing dragon and evil wizard. Naturally you are asking your genie to get you fuck out of the cave. And the little fucker gives you a rope, A DAMN ROPE! Swing your way out... What happened to good old teleportation?!

A really charming and fun fantasy film. They did a great job making the bad guy come across as sneaky in a way that leaves you wondering for a while where his heart is. If you're into fantasy stuff, I highly recommend this one, although it has one big flaw in the form of the kid who plays the genie. He's awful and hardly emotes anything except dyspepsia and hesitance.

a pretty decent fantasy romp that, while dated, still has entertainment value. it's biggest problems are poor writing and acting, but that can be forgiven in exchange for the dragon vs. cyclops fight.

Hooray for glued-on chest hair! The plot is forgettable, B-movie fodder at best, but Harryhausen's special effects are incredible. That last skeleton fight is simply amazing. I wish claymation was still hot.

What a goofy film (Sinbad's chest hair is sponge-painted on, reminding us that another Connery can always bring back its sex appeal; and no one is anywhere close to Arabic looking). Plus, the plot is something lifted from a lesser 60's Star Trek episode. The redemption, then, comes in Harryhausen's incredible SFX; and even on a large screen, I can't really tell it was claymation (the skeleton battle at the end!). Flawed, but awe-inspiring at the same time.

It's that 50's charm that really helps pull this through; especially with Kathryn Grant. Besides the snake woman this is also some of Harryhausen's best work and proves it was worth the wait until he did this as his first color film.

Let's be real, you watch for the Harryhausen. You get good value on that the front, the rest of the film is pretty bad.

I saw a dragon fight a cyclops, and you should watch this movie for that alone. What a blast this movie is, the old school adventure films were usually pretty entertaining.

One of the better paced and scripted Harryhausen outings, and packed with stop-motion spectacle. Just good, wholesome fun.

Cheesy and the cast is weak, but it's still a pretty fun swashbuckling film with some of the best Harryhausen monsters I've seen.

thats one helluva pisspoor cast, honestly. but you're not watching the people you're watching harryhausen's giant claymation monsters trying to inflict brutality on them. and that's what makes it great.

Wonderful, old-school adventure yarn is a perfect showcase for Harryhausen's iconic creature effects, and a potentially Grade-Z cast who all rise to the occasion and attach their roles with vigour. Inevitably requires a certain suspension of disbelief, and a willingness to appreciate it in its historical context, but a lot of fun for those willing to go with it.

Awesome timepiece that best serves as a look into the bombast adventure films of old. Suffers from its age, but Harryhausen's "dynamation" is absolutely timeless. Both the Cyclops-Dragon battle and Sinbad's final skeleton duel stand out, with the latter giving us a brief glimpse into the iconic battle we'd see 5 years later in Jason & the Argonauts. Fun stuff.

Classic imagery and stop-motion set-pieces, combined with Herrmann's often amazing score, deliver naive but still amusing entertainment. Any doubts? So check the number of enemies Sinbad fights along the way -- a two-headed giant bird, a dragon, cyclops, an evil, Lord Varys-like wizard, prisioners turned sailors that rebel against him and his crew at the beginning of the voyage, a skeleton soldier, demon voices at the sea coming from a distant island.

I only watched it because it's a Ray Harry Hausen movie - but the wonderfully cheesy adventure ingredients promised a lot of fun: wicked sorcerers, a beautiful princess the size of a thumb, and lots of pirate crew shenanigans, curved blades, and billowing pantaloons. Despite all this cheesy goodness, and my willingness to get immersed in it all and just enjoy the fun, it didn't really manage to hold my attention.

Terrible. It's like they're reading the script off of the person in front of them. Although I must admit, the fighting scenes were very funny.
