I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. It feels like a great medieval adventure tale mixed with some Norse. This is a great movie for anyone swung by romanticisms, honor, courage, or solidarity. Fantasy and even D&D fans should own it.

Good cast. Extra points for he Norse fighting theme. The witch doctor led demon army was weird. There were a few good fights & action scenes. Mischa Hausserman was nice. The Norse warriors were satisfying, but Bandares got a bit too much screen time. Overall this movie is well worth watching but not without its flaws. Good production quality, music, sound & SFX.

I won't deny that I had a fair bit of fun watching it, but I can't really recommend it to anyone, as it doesn't really stand out in any way. And it has plot holes and elements that defy logic; Antonio Banderas' character apparently learns Norse in an evening... he must be quite the cunning linguist.

Not too bad, but it seemed to lack 'emphasis' at key times. I don't mean 'hollywood explosions' or more 'characteristic gore.' I wasn't captivated enough to find many high or low points in this film. There was nothing here that endeared me to the vikings significantly by either their actions, customs or their words. Nor was there anything about the "Arab" to greatly like. Also nothing about the enemy that made me detest them or fear them very much. Not even the sneaky over done cannibal moralism

Michael Crichton is one of the most celebrated American sci-fi writers. Whether his novels work as a movies of not is another question. 13th Warrior lack any tension; presented story is run-of-a-mill Beowulf re-imagining with less than interesting characters. Watching this film feels like a tedious work and I would recommend Beowulf by Zemeckis for viking action flick instead.

This is very much mediocre. Not memorable, not especially thrilling or exciting. On the plus side? - Antonio Banderas in a long black robe on horseback (woo!) on the minus side? a not too coherent plot, multiple scenes featuring people talking in a foreign language with no real sign of subtitles. Not much to say in favour of this - its not at all a stand out film. I wouldn't bother watching this personally, no. It all seemed a bit daft to me.

Muddled and murky attempt at action-adventure is surprisingly dour and lifeless, coming from director McTiernan and star Banderas, who both seem to be feeling down and glum as they plod through their respective duties. It doesn’t help that its story, an ungainly retelling of the Beowulf legend, is paper-thin and uninteresting, and contains characters on the Viking side of things with no personality, often feeling blandly interchangeable when the dark and confusing action scenes kick in.

Watched a long time ago and remembered it as atmospheric, exciting. Rewatched yesterday, it seemed confused. Odd historical elements added together. He can suddenly understand Norse so the US market doesn't have to deal with subtitles. Hmm. Perhaps a good one for teenagers in the 90s, but it doesn't add much to the costume action genre. And I say this as a 90s action aficionado, who likes Cutthroat Island!

It's an entertaining take on the Beowulf myth, with Banderas as Middle Eastern joining the Norse Men in their battle against mysterious monstrous creatures. The movie has a good pace so it never really bores while watching. But the big action sequences against huge hordes of creatures underwhelm. Plus the characters stay underdeveloped, including Banderas himself.

There is nothing exciting, fun, or interesting about the 13th Warrior. The backstory of its Norse-themed story is presented through tired exposition and the majority of the cast plays their roles with a dour expression the entire time. The action isn't even good, as a lot of it inexplicably takes place at night or in dark caves, making it impossible to decipher a lot of the time. Just nothing at all of substance to grab onto here.

I almost universally dislike Antonio Banderas as an actore. So overrated. With that said, this movie is an exception and he would be one of my favorite actors if more of his stuff were like this. The movie is genius, one of those that will take you by surprise. Though it's not a period piece, more of a fantasy adventure, it seems to very effectively portray the life of the vikings. The story is much deeper than you would expect based on the storyline and the acting is top notch by all.

I applaud the film's treatment of Arabs, but I found myself deploring its misogyny. McTiernan has the same eye for composition as ever, but the film suffers from poor editing, worse characterization, and subplots that fizzle prematurely. In the warriors-hacking-at-each-other genre, though, I'd still put it above the median.

The poor man's Seven Samurai. It does get some points from me in it's use of language in two instances: Firstly in the slow translation into english (an elaboration of what McTiernan did in Red October). Secondly, and unintentionally, to the casting of a Danish Hulk Hogan lookalike, who delivers a handful memorable lines in an (for native Danes) unmistakable rural dialect.

Pretty good version of Beowulf. Not great but certainly a great action movie and with quite a cast as well. Nevermind that Antonio Banderas and Omar Sharif are in it how that fits in to Beowulf don't ask me. They made it work and it is a truly enjoyable film. Don't expect the legend as told from lore it has a spin and it is different. You will be on the edge of your seat and rooting for the heroes throughout. Definitly a man movie.

The story itself was just a little predictable. You take a guy who's never picked up a sword before and throw him into situation where he needs to fight, and suddenly he can hold his own against seasoned warriors. I did love the fact that they used actual accents / manuerisms that you'd expect vikings to have / use. This added a bit more credability to the film. All-in-all, good guy movie.

At a certain point in time, Michael Crichton was hot stuff. His stories were turned into profitable movies. So his back-catalog was mined, and they turned up a story back from the time when he was still an amateur. Somehow they got Antonio Banderas to play lead, possibly on the promise this was going to be a big movie. Too bad for him, as the story was filled with elements that stab your suspension of disbelief right in the eyes, and then tramples all over it. Arab saved from huns by vikings?

This is my favorite take on the epic of Beowulf. Antonio Banderas makes for a very compelling Arabian stuck in the middle of a lot of Vikings on their way to save a village from Grendel's attacks. This film was like an outsiders look at the very well-known story, telling it from a different point of view. Banderas learns the language around him, learns to fight in a new way, & ultimately proves himself in battle with awesome action scenes & just enough intrigue for repeat watchings.
