This was pretty great. In many ways it outdoes Bond films of the era, but it is a bit less serious. It has a look and feel of a big production and they make great use of Brazil locations. Belmondo (doing some impressive stunts) and Dorleac are great together. I'm astonished that I hadn't seen it before, but it must not have had too many TV airings in the Nordics when I grew up. It could have been a bit shorter, but overall this was a big surprise and one that I will return to in the future.

I figured that Spielberg borrowed a lot to make the Indy movies, but wow did he take a lot from this movie. Wonderful film, very madcap, and quite unique in it's own way.

Wildly goofy adventure comedy in which Belmondo proves himself the missing link between Buster Keaton and Jackie Chan while playing the missing link between Tintin and Indiana Jones. There's even a bit of drunken pugilism thrown in. Pure entertainment, though those final moments may make the more sensitive among us cringe. Still one of the best.

Mostly seen as a French answer to the Bond movies, but exactly way more a predecessor of Indiana Jones. It's a highly entertaining full throttle adventure action movie. There are moments in the movie of which I'm not sure if they are meant as parodies of the genres or they really are just campy bad... either way it's all good fun. Belmondo clearly is having a lot of fun too. And it has the cutest of the Deneuve sisters.

Viewed July 28, 2016. Among the most delightful movies ever made, and as perfect as adventure cinema gets. Obviously, a movie about the impossibly cool (and impossibly clean) Jean-Paul Belmondo gallivanting around Technicolor Brazil in search of a lady is inherently interesting - but it's the film's very specific, bouncy rhythm that makes it so special. It's full-out madcap lunacy, but everything is assembled organically, with such care. It will make you believe in movies again.

A blast from start to finish, presented in a magnificently over-the-top fashion that proves highly infectious. It may not be short of some occasional silliness, though never at the expense of storytelling or character consistency. And Belmondo, man, what a joy to watch him play.
