That Lovely Girl

A minor but good movie. There is not a lot of detail to the characters and plot, nor is there a great deal of development, but I think it discusses the immensely difficult and rarely filmed subject of incestuous abuse with dignity and taste. It's actually impressive that Yedaya was able to adapt Shez's autobiographical novel into a simple little slice-of-life, while conserving its highly depressing affect.

a really disturbing film. the relationship it depicted was so grotesque and vomit inducing that it was difficult to get through. i never quite got over the incest so even when there were emotional beats between the characters i couldn't engage in them because the disturbing reality of their relationship was too prevalent. i think it's not that the subject matter is unrealistic - incest happens in the real world - it's just the way this film depicted it that made it implausible.
