An enjoyable film that strikes out at racism but hypocritical in its lack of Native Americans in staring roles. Playing "Little Beaver" as a child doesn't make you a Native American, and the casting of Katharine Ross was insulting.

Setting aside the casting of Blake and Ross as native Americans, which clearly comes from another era - and then giving RB lengthy monologues about the treatment of his people - they are both good in the movie, he especially. Redford also does fine work as the deputy sheriff on their trail, and I liked Susan Clark’s performance too. There is some striking imagery and it’s generally engaging, yet never quite the sum of its parts. A good film that perhaps could have been closer to a great one
