I must have watched this movie 20 times or more the first few years it came out. While the premise comes across as pretty absurd some 37 years later, there are plenty of solid performances by some young actors who went on to have very successful careers. Cruise before Risky Business; Penn before Fast Times at Ridgemont High; Timothy Hutton, Giancarlo Esposito, and Evan Handler all very early in their careers. Well worth revisiting all these years later. A solid 'good, but not great' flick.

I liked seeing all the later famous actors but it gets real slow once the occupation starts

The acting is solid, but the script tends to be ridiculous, the pacing (especially in the first 30 minutes) is absolutely painful, and the ending is a bit of a letdown.

A lovely, timeless movie about growing up and responsibility and leadership, but how depressing can an ending be?

Fairly silly premise but its got so many talented actors, it ends up being enjoyable enough.
