Highly enjoyable (if ultimately formulaic) fairy tale. Its most notable aspect is the charismatic villainess, who has no powers but that of expert emotional manipulation. Lots of fun.

Disney breaks new ground with this bold commentary on the current situation in the middle east: The young Rapunzel (the people of Libya) has never seen the real world as she is held captive by an evil old woman (Gadaffi) claiming to be protecting her from the evils of the world until a young renegade (the protesters) frees her and shows her the joys of the free world and she learns that's she's capable of making it without the evil old woman. Or it's just a trite fairytale. You decide.

Feels like something of a return to form for Disney. "Tangled" is the first Disney production for sometime that's recaptured anything like that Disney charm of old. Yet impressively "Tangled" still feels modern & relevant, & has buckets of impressive animation. Refreshingly for Disney, even the songs are pretty good, humourous & effective. This was the first time in a long time I have watched a Disney pic & the songs haven't been a total chore to sit through! Fun characters, well voiced & funny.

This was unexpected. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did. The trailer looked like a Dreamworks animated type movie with lame humor. I was wrong. I love this movie, I was smiling through the whole thing. The animation is top notch (as it should be with the 260m budget). The soundtrack is fantastic. The only problem I have is the ending. You'll know what I mean if you've seen it. Even so, it's still a great movie, one of the best animated movies of the decade, if not all time.

"Tangled" is a perfectly satisfactory animated fairy tale, much like the Disney films that dominated 20 years ago. That being said, it also offers little in the way of surprise. I was hoping for more here, especially in the way of memorable supporting characters, but overall Disney provides a serviceable and entertaining romp that will likely please family audiences.

Oh my god Rapunzel is *adorable*. Also, a disturbingly true-to-life villain, some excellent action scenes, and an overall good story. (The music is mostly generic, but not so much so that it's a detriment to the film.)

Tangled is an enjoyable return to fairytale form from Disney. It's by no means up there with obvious classics, but compared to Disney's recent efforts, this refreshingly feels like familiar territory. All round the animation is impressive and the mix of characters will cater for the whole family. Also there's enough humour for both kids and adults . And ultimately that's what Disney is all about. I just hope this kick starts a run of form and that Disney can get back to doing what they do best.

Yes, the old fairy tale has surely been updated. The tower-bound beauty sports a more self-reliant panache then most of her princess predecessors. Her one-liner-popping beau is a bit goofier than yesteryear's Prince Charmings. And even the story's title has been rejiggered from an old-school Rapunzel to a more hipster-friendly Tangled. One of my favorite Disney movies all together but definitely my favorite CGI animated feature. Rapunzel is honestly one of the cutest Princesses ever. To see her experience the world for the first time is always a joy, no matter how many times you watch the movie. Mandy Moore's singing voice is just Disney perfect and her acting voice is so sugary sweet you have to love it. My favorite is Flynn voiced by Zachary Levi. His voice is great and his singing wasn't half bad. A wonderful movie!

I was worried that it might not meet my (really high) expectations, but it did. GORGEOUS animation, great music, beautiful story - this is proof that Disney doesn't need Pixar to make an amazing animated movie and, what's most important, can still produce a fairy-tale that feels both classic and fresh at the same time. Loved it!

'The Princess and the Frog' is a tough act to follow and 'Tangled' doesn't measure up well. It's subpar Disney with forgettable songs, predictable plot, jokes aimed lower than Dreamworks goes for on an off-day. Some call it modern, but mark my words: this will age poorly. Even though it's a cookie-cutter product, it's reasonably entertaining and the animation of Fitzherbert (funny name, bland character) and Rapunzel's facial expressions was very cool. All in all, however, a disappointment.

One of my favourite animated films. Some very moving scenes and some very loveable characters that you instantly care about. Brisk pace throughout, a good plot that works, I was instantly absorbed into the world and characters created here, which is quite amazing. Even on rewatch this film doesn't become boring and manages to suck you in right away, staying compelling all the way through.

The visuals alone make this a classic. It's like a marriage between the best parts of old and new school animation, rendered 3d inspired by drawn 2d storytelling. Maybe the most scarily "realistic" villain in Disney history.

At my age i didn't had my hopes high to feel the "Disney Magic" as i felt it when i was a kid but Tangled suprisingly managed to ewoke that and i loved it! While not as thought provoking as a pixar movie , it's definetly enchanted in a "Disney" way. Something that was deemed lost. I liked the subtle Disney references with the castle, ducks and mice. They definitely crafted the movie with love and respect for the Disney Legacy. I have to say, the sidekicks Maximus and Pascal were great!

Tangled is beautifully animated and often funny. The relationship between Rapunzel and Mother Gothel is frightening in its potential realism. The film suffers, however, when compared to other Disney classics as it borrows heavily from The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. Even the Oscar nominated song sounds a lot like "A Whole New World." The ending impressed though, coming off much darker than I expected. Ultimately, compared to Pixar and even the latest Dreamworks films, it didn't quite measure up.

(2014-15 Disneython #44:) There's plenty to like here, especially the elegant and gorgeous sequence involving hundreds of floating lights. I found some of the humor forced and the villain ultimately unmenacing. I did like the Rapunzel/Flynn relationship. I kind of would love to see the traditional 2D animated version of this movie.

A voluminous fairy tale flick with lots to note: the plot is full of songs, action, and comedy (often tangled together-there's plenty of slapstick), the damsel-in-distress motif is turned (hit) on its head (with a frying pan), and the uniquely chilling villain (an emotionally manipulative parent) adds some poignancy to the coming-of-age arc. The romance is sweet ("You were my new dream") but also, she just turned 18 and has never seen the world so the power dynamic there is a bit offputting.

Very much not terrible but terribly conventional, even for Disney. It does have some moderate charm but it's all intrinsically tied to some cliche. In this light, the high production value evident in the animation makes me slightly disappointed and depressed (although that should probably be blamed on my psychiatrist instead of the film).

Overall, a worthy addition to the Disney pantheon. It has a good story with plenty of fun, exciting moments. The characters in general are very engaging. Rapunzel is adorable. The animation is good, and a few songs are very nice. However, it's a little too generic, poppish and modern at times. It lacks that timeless charm that Beauty and the Beast or Snow White have. In fact, at times it feels more like a DreamWorks' feature than a Disney one. Regardless, I really love this movie.

Impressive animation is undercut somewhat by a predictable plot that we've seen in dozens (hundreds, actually) of other films. Cute, sweet, and lovely, a great family film. The animation and visuals are lush and gorgeous, certainly the best I've seen from Disney's team. Enough gags for the kids, but its also got that Disney heart to keep the grown-ups involved too. The songs are good and the story pure, but it can't match up to Disney's earlier masterpieces and 09's Princess and the Frog. Still, a meaningful treat, better than most of animation coming out these days. Enjoy it

Disney animation was at its high point in the 90s, and being a child of the 90s, it was sad to watch the studio stumble from classics like Beauty and the Beast to garbage like the Emporer's New Groove. With Tangled, Disney goes back to its roots with a straight forward musical fairy tale. While the film isn't hand drawn, it captures the aesthetic better than most CG films to date. Equally heartening is a story without talking animals or anachronistic pop references, that is pure classic Disney.

Has nothing compared to classic Disney. The songs weren't that good or catchy which it a huge hit to a Disney movie. Most of the movie had a sort of generic feel except for the lantern scene which was the only part to have that Disney magic. I know people can and will enjoy Tangled but I've been spoiled by better Disney outings. The animation was good but as usual the 3D really doesn't add anything except a couple of bucks to the ticket price.

Though Tangled never feels like it treads any new ground it still manages to entertain though jokes, though admittedly most of those are merely funny due to sheer stupidity rather than cleverness. I was disappointed at the lack of depth of the Mother Gothel character rather than displaying her as a completely generic selfish villain. A bit more to the relationship between her and Rapunzel might've made the movie more interesting.

Princess and the Frog was a far better effort. The movie is so very conventional - do we really need yet ANOTHER "All you have to do is follow your dreams!" aesop? The characters looked a little off, but the backgrounds and water effects were gorgeous. "Mother Knows Best" is a pretty good song, but the soundtrack wasn't up to Alan Menken's usual standard.

A classic animated Disney musical, but it lacks the elements that made B and the B, Aladdin and others great. First the funny sidekicks. In this one a froglike chameleon and a tracker horse with a heart are suppose to make us laugh, but they never shine. Secondly catchy songs and lyrics, I cant even remember a melody. In the end it turns out to be a mediocre chase story with weak characters and annoying songs. But the kids will like it! Thumbs up for references to MI:1, Transformers and more ;-)

So, I kind of dig this for what it is, as a version of the "I'm coming home" story. In that, while it highlights the romance in terms of story, her parents are always in view, which is significant, I think, and add a real pathos to the proceedings. Further, the songs seem less prominent here in relation to the story, which I appreciate.

Retelling of RAPUNZEL is a complete and utter delight – while this doesn't strike any new sparks or revolutionises the animation process, it's so much fun and played so well by its voice cast that it seems silly to quibble – outside of Moore, a lack of "marquee names" makes the vocal performances easier to accept; film is stolen by Murphy's brilliantly nasty and petulant evocation of the "wicked stepmother" tropes of yore.

Does not stray far from the Disney formula, but a pretty good take on the old fairytale. For being the archetypical damsel in distress, the lead character is given quite a lot of agency and an excitable personality that comes through in the animation. Of course there's a cute animal comic relief sidekick, and of course he's useless, but at least he is not extremely annoying, or a big part of the film. The cute animal part was weak, the musical part was weak and the animation quality was so so. They did few creative tricks with the hair angle, and the indignant horse Maximus was cool. Also, they touched the "A**hole mother that pulls her daughter down" undercurrent very well with Gother (She is no Malefic though as far as villains go). Some good laughs, an entertaining pub sequence, and a fairly scary depiction of an abusive "mother"-daughter relationship.
