January Jones is amazing & gorgeous. Jason Isaacs made a crazy scary psychopathic preacher. Ed Harris as the eccentric but thorough lawman was also very entertaining. The plot is raw & gritty. Some nudity & extra points for the January frontal scenes. The atmosphere felt like authentic wild west mannerisms & attitudes. Classic revenge plot with a few twists & embellishments. Great camera work. Satisfying ending.

CRIMINALLY UNDERSEEN! It absolutely soars for its first half or so, delivering the kind of charged atmosphere & suspenseful standoffs 99% of action flicks starring yet another badass fail to achieve with wit & style to spare. The villain's as memorably loathsome as they come & in a lot of ways the first half-hour calls to mind the very best moments of HBO's Deadwood. It's tough to sustain this level of inspired however & the final act falls too much in line with the standard revenge flick.

Sweetwater uses a tempered, almost quiet, tone juxtaposed against the inherent violence and debauchery in its American West setting. I'm not a natural fan of Westerns, so was hesitant after the bleak opening, but there are a few moments in the film that won me over. While the plot and characters are fairly simple, the film is reasonably entertaining. Harris was excellent. Jones a little unlikable, especially as the protagonist. Isaacs was purposefully despicable. The ending was a underwhelming.

A bog-standard revenge tale that has nothing going on under the surface. Ed Harris was enjoyable though.

Ed Harris and January Jones' boobs are the highlight of something that obviously wanted to be Deadwood. It turns out the mix of dark comedy and western violence isn't all that easy to pull off.

For such a sweet title the movie has a sour view toward poor Sarah in this bizarre Western tale...
