Sweet Liberty

Pleasant enough comedy, unfortunately undone by glaring continuity problems, and lack of substance and focus in its main characters. Writer-director Alda kinda sorta wants to paint his characters as egomaniacal, selfish monsters but doesn't have the heart to commit to these traits, resulting in muddy motivations and a climactic reunion between Alda and Hildbolt which feels bizarre and out of place. But Pfeiffer is wonderful, and McGinley does get a memorable screen debut.
