This is strong, if on the obvious side and pretty clearly indebted to Todd Haynes' Safe, for maybe the first half. That portion probably could have been crafted into a good short. Without getting spoilery, the remainder drifts away on a tangent and ends up pretty far afield.

±Effective. All act well??Gory image @ start 2 unsettle upset my animal lover Try no spoilers ? hard 2 write..SO,Basic film plot/situ seen a lot, given strong, int twist by manner she 'acts'/calls out •Actress IS good & clear how director said 2 portray... but for 1st 20m I felt she might be -80 IQ; assume not aim! Husband acts well as peels away ? final scene??Impressive 2 cause tension just by her holding objects in hands, doing nothing •Delib slow & not fun ?

Could have stood as a worthy spiritual remake of SAFE, if only it had the courage to stick with its inherent weirdness rather than swerving toward too-slick profundity. You might even say it...choked. *smiles the satisfied smile of Haley Bennett with a thumbtack in her tummy*

Designed like a 70s Cronenberg movie inside and out, but not quite executed to the same degree. While Bennett is very good, the character work is just a little too flat - you find yourself wondering how the hell these two people even met, and whether everyone's actions can always have ONE single explanation, and neither of those two things marry well with the slow tempo. Still, as body horror goes, this is more than just fine.

I loved the film but hated the ending! This movie really did not need the generalizing BIG MESSAGE at the end - all the different women in the public loo -. What a fucked up feminist non sense message! Please, come on, not all men are shit -not even all rich men :)-. It's time to be brave and smart enough to depict complex and nuanced male characters in a film about female related existential issues.

The most straightforward movie I've ever seen. Genuinely feels like they only had like 2-3 ideas. She eats the hurty stuff because she has no power in her arranged marriage there ya go. It's just her eating ouchy stuff the whole movie and then the expected happens later (you'll know what I mean) and shortly after that an out of nowhere provocative shock reveal at the very end that is only related via the patriarchy theme (I guess?)

I'm not a big fan of these movies riding #metoo's coattails, where the gist is that men are bad. This one's better than most, though. It seems somewhat indebted to Haynes' "Safe", Haley Bennett is mesmerizing in the lead, and, while rather crude with flat characters, it isn't ridiculous.

For the most part, 'Swallow' follows the standard 21st-century American indie template—a middle-of-the-road, unequivocal, uncontroversial essay whose thesis is always front and centre. The ending, however, with its bizarre evocation of redemptive prison rape and its inspirational women's bathroom music video, pushes the ultimate effect of the piece into high comedy.

The best synopsis: the film is about a very crazy woman who eats crap and defects children in the toilet. It doesn't have fun, doesn't instruct, doesn't build (the soul), no wonder (like art). You don1t waste your time. Total garbage.

I was expecting more thrills, but ended up getting an engaging, unique drama instead. I'm ok with that. Darkly funny at times. Relatable and human, defying the subject matter.

Came up as horror for me but clearly it's not. Even if it's disturbing it's a drama and thriller at the very most. I did however enjoy the movie because it's easy to relate to Hunter doing the things she do and why.

Though this is odd subject matter, I loved the overall look of the movie, and the caliber of acting talent was up there.

A knockout performance from Haley Bennett anchors a cleverly written & gorgeously shot psychological nightmare that is, at times, genuinely more uncomfortable to watch than most more graphic films of its kind. Though it doesn't hit every note just right, it makes the most of its premise & takes the narrative in unexpected directions, making for some very interesting scenes & interactions. Also, Austin Stowell is fantastic as the slimiest Richie Rich manchild ever. Definitely worth watching.

A compelling look into the emotional state of a woman who feels trapped by her circumstances and overlooked by the people in her life. Great lead performance by Haley Bennett.

This doesn't quite earn its atmosphere of dread that it wants to have. We go from not knowing these people at all to "eating a marble" in less than 15 minutes. That's a problem narratively for a movie, even if speed is common for sufferers of pica. Also, "this ice is awesome" is an awful, awful line. Haley's performance is one I measure on a scale of good, not of great, and this only rarely hits any crescendo of intensity before the birthday party (very late). This missed the mark for me.

Who knew a movie about a woman who swallows a thumbtack would be so beautifully shot, great costumes, and well acted. Swallow, a compliment piece almost to 2020's other abuse film "Invisible Man", is a good character study on mental illness and abuse that is held back by convenient cliches or character actions. So many times a character is in the right place at the right time. It's unique premise definitely makes it less of an issue, but at points I did roll my eyes.

Reportedly, Mirabella-Davis had originally ended the film with Bennett yelling out YAS KWEEN!!!, but test audiences felt this was perhaps a bit too on-the-nose in a film that is all about being too on-the-nose.

Tuta tuta çatlayacaksın be kadın.
