Historic epic that follows Edward Arnold & Lee Tracy on their journey to California and the discovery of gold. Takes us through a lot of history, and in many ways feels like those early Oscar winners Cimarron (1931) and Cavalcade (1933). The idea is ambitious, but it doesn't necessary make for a great movie experience. The acting becomes too hammy in it's American tribute. Director James Cruze sure lost the boat on this production, and the Laemmle family lost their company.
