A man continually trying and failing to get his wife to stay dead; a self-absorbed ad agency creative director who comes up with one unworkably inane idea after another; a Brittish hitman who only wants to know everyone's function in life; and an unfortunate office worker and father whose brain is left scrambled after a stage hypnotist is murdered in mid-performance. Starting off as unrelated plot lines, they intertwine with each other as they continue on their respective ways. (IMDB)

It's sensory overload; a flashing, shiny kaleidoscope of WTF. A joyous blast of camp, blood, imagination, chickens and gay romance.

Sure, say you think this is the greatest thing ever, it's still boring, inane and annoying.

Lots of great laughs and recurring bits. Visually stunning with great set design. The dense, picturesque sets definitely demonstrate the director's commercial-creating history. Upon rewatch, this is an excellent amalgamation of five stories about acceptance. Never thought I'd see Tadanobu Asano and Vinnie Jones share the screen...

This is total cinema. This movie needs no excuses like a story or a message - it's just here to blow your mind.

Kids love it! OMG so random! Well, there's random and then there's glib. Now, it's not terrible but it's really just an artless cobbling together of rather obvious, and better, influences. Katsuhito Ishii does his thing better. Even Guy fucking Richie does his thing better. Also, it's fine for Tadanobu Asano to play the exact same character in half his movies, but there's a good reason Hiroshi Abe doesn't generally do zany comedic roles.

What happens if Pulp Fiction and Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas get a Japanese child? The answer is complete and utter insanity, in the most hilarious and entertaining way you can imagine. Makes up for the pretty much absent plot by being an extremely well done exercise in style. It's a fantastical rollercoaster of colors, camp and craziness.

The first 90 minutes looks and feels great, but really isn't anything more mind-blowing than 90 straight minutes of Japanese TV commercials. Thankfully, though it doesn't finish everything that it started, it ends with a wiff of grace. Extra props for Sonny Chiba's cameo.

Wow, a real assault on the senses. Odd, enjoyable and rather unique type of dark comedy.

Oh my God. Seriously, see this film. Class, wit, murder, reincarnation, chickens, and pelvic thrusting. I laughed a lot, and I really like the colors and the design of this film. The soundtrack is spiffy as well. Definately check out this film if you're into Pulp Fiction (but with more humor and less gore)

This is a real masterpiece of style. It's major sensory overload, with stunning colors, crazy sets, bizarro special effects, and all sorts of odd tricks and diversions, combined with a dynamic soundtrack. However, although the film is enthralling in its visual assault, it doesn't really add up to more than an exercise in style.

If you love weird random nonsense that isn't funny for like 2 hours then I guess Survive Style 5+ might be for you. As for me personally, I really disliked it. I suppose it has some okay visuals and performances here and there, and the music fitted in parts, but there's barely anything interesting going on here. This didn't work for me at all despite knowing it was going to be weird and random. Also, what the fuck was up with Vinnie Jones in this movie?

It's out-there and a few scenes are very, very funny. It couldn't hate it because it doesn't lead you to expect anything in particular.

To say this movie has a plot would be giving it entirely too much credit. It is more of a collection of random nonsense strung together by a thread of violence. There is nothing profound, little of it is entertaining and it is overall extremely stupid and disconnected. It has almost nothing creative or smart. Most of this movie is like a bunch of wacky dreams scenes randomly strung together. Perhaps this movie would be good if you were stoned out of your mind or off the mental deep end?

+Highly entertaining with a great ending. -It's a bit too schizophrenic at times and difficult to understand the purpose or message. Even when the phrase "What's your function in life?" seemed to stick out, it would be hard to relate this question to the movie as a whole.

Proof that style over substance (no pun intended) can work to a startling degree. The atmosphere and energy in this are phenomenal. Tragically overlooked. The performances, especially Tadanobu Asano's are dead on. As a guy who has a soft spot for unique and creative aesthetics, this movie is and always will be one of my favorites. Sure, the plot(s) are a tad bit thin here and there, but I couldn't be bothered to care.

What the hell did I just watch? I mean it does manage to be a genius amalgam of traditional cinema and the avant-garde, capitalizing on both distinctly Japanese and cosmopolitan storytelling, providing one of the most strangely addicting bizarre rides into the surreal, but... what the hell is it? It certainly isn't a movie, I'll tell you that.
