Suitable Flesh

It took too long for me to adjust my understanding of what was going on with this and I couldn't get fully behind it in the amount of film I had left. A tribute to Skinemax style films starring two of the most beautiful blondes to ever grace the screen and somehow I wasn't on board. I may be dead inside. Will rewatch at some point and expect to convert to full on fandom.

Filling Stuart Gordon's shoes is no easy task, but this was valiant effort, and there are flashes of what I really wanted out of this here and there (particularly when the blood starts spilling). It's held back by some key stylistic choices that don't jibe with me, some jokes that don't land, and an inescapable feeling that more could have been done with this fun body-swapping premise. I think the world is overdue for a real Barbara Crampton renaissance, I need her back in big leading roles ASAP

In the dvd extras, the virtue signaling director talks about wanting to avoid the "male gaze" by casting women instead of men in the leads. Of course he doesn't understand the vague feminist slogan he's regurgitating, & luckily he pads the slim storyline w/ sex scenes - which suits the film & me. It feels alot like another Stuart Gordon Lovecraft entry w/ a subtly camp sensibility, brisk pace & really compelling last third. If not for the sex & extended running time, it'd fit well on Creepshow.

I want whatever vampire blood or adrenochrom Heather Graham is getting. The movie knows what it is, a campy but unique lovecraftian concept.

This is delightsome. It knows exactly what it is and doesn't take itself too seriously.

There were three-and-a-half scenes in this movie that were great. And it also recognizes it's own campiness to be enjoyable.

It doesn't seem like it at first, but there is something special about this film, which only shows itself from the middle to the end, when things get more intense.

I had a few laughs about how utterly ridiculous the camera work and acting was, but every single thing abut this film is batshit crazy cringe bad. Never knew Graham was such a bad actrice. Serious The Room vibes, though, so might be worth another so-bad-it's-good run.

I had great fun watching Suitable Flesh, which I determined as the first movie of 2024. It is a Lovecraft adaptation that reminds me of the magnificent mind of Stuart Gordon, with its absurd erotic scenes, the wonderful reflection of dark comedy, and the use of body horror. Joe Lynch's direction style was bloody, dirty, old school and very enjoyable. The chemistry between Heather Graham, Judah Lewis and Barbara Crampton were also extremely good.

What a ride. This is a fairly good horror movie, and I am not a horror genre fan. Plus I really like Heather Graham.

Stuart Gordon would be proud. Fun lead performances and inventive direction help mask the lack of polish in other parts of the production.

This can in no way be called a "good movie", but it's also not trying to be. If that's what you're looking for, this is probably worth a watch.

I found the transference special effects just a little too flashy and the sex not nearly horny enough, but the gore is fantastic for this small story, and they really let loose at the end (though I had hoped they would go completely off the rails).

The further it went along the more I got engrossed in the trashiness of it all. So much camera twirling and extreme close ups. Goofy sex and lots of brutality. Very strange

An erotic, Lovecraft-based, little cheap, giallo-ish, 80s-inspired, sort of trashy, low-budget Malignant featuring a blood-thirsty entity whose only goal is to possess every hot body in town while smoking some joints here and there? Come on, it's silly as hell and evidently forgettable, but I'm just all in for it.
