Stuart Saves His Family

This could have easily been another paint-by-numbers SNL movie, but Franken, the star and sole credited writer, clearly cares about the material, to the extent that the film soberly explores themes like the increasing medicalization of personal and emotional problems in society, the way that support groups inevitably cut both ways, and the unfortunate fact of family being a burden for those who decide to swim against the tide. The only problem is that it's not very good.

Maybe you have to have seen SNL to have some affection for this weird little creep. The only reason I tried this is a favourable mention in Roger Ebert's Your Movie Sucks

These horrible SNL movies anger me.

It is strange to find such layered characters and actual substance in an SNL flick. It doesn't necessarily succeed, but it has its moments.

Hard to believe Al Franken is trying to be a politician after handing us a piece of crap like this.

Talking about a rape in a comedy? Not gold.

A drama with comedic aspects, rather than a comedy. Not for everyone, but give it a try.
