Strange World of Coffin Joe

The movie and its segments were so poorly made and acted that it bordered on Avant-garde. The first segment was fun for what it was. The second was trippy but not really in a good way. The final segment, while the best of the mediocre bunch also had the worst pacing and inane dialogue.

First is a good rape and revenge, with a great finale -- doll maker using rapists' eyes for his creations --, second is boring -- pervert kinda homeless dude that stalks a woman with his balloons; she is killed, he gets her out of the coffin, puts a wedding dress on her and shoes she lost and he found -- and the last one is Mojica's Saw but good! -- an evil philosopher applies his cannibalistic theories to a couple he invited home, only to prove instinct is more powerful than love and reason.

The first segment was the best. Then things grew progressively more tiresome and irritating, leading us all to the torture chamber of that final act.

Mojica era mesmo muito à frente de seu tempo, nos anos 60 ninguém fazia um cinema sádico como o dele ainda, esse tipo de coisa cru apareceria no cinema de horror americano e europeu só nos anos 70. Curiosidade: a explosão do último minuto do filme seguido dos dizeres bíblicos foi imposto pela censura, Mojica pegou um filme egípcio com Omar Shariff em que o produtor George Mishel havia feito figuração e simplesmente colocou lá como final.
