Strange Interlude

Usually I'm a big fan of O'Neill's stuff, but this movie was just awkward.

Strange Interlude is a rather bizarre Hollywood film for it's time. It uses a lot of inner thoughts like Hitchcock pioneered in Murder (1930), but it takes it to exaggerated levels and it gets comical with the actors acting what they are thinking with facial expressions and awkward pauses. It does make it a fascinating picture even if it's not perfectly done, but it does also make the film about 1/3rd longer because it adds all the thinking dialogue a film usually wouldn't have.
