I'm a sucker for Canuxploitation. Never heard of these characters before but this was basically Canada's version of a SNL spinoff film. The way the characters talked with all the "eh" was annoying. The film itself wasn't bad if you didn't care about the ridiculous scheme. Take off! Too bad they couldn't make a sequel. Fav scenes: lie detector; drinking all the beer; skunk superdog saving the day

One of those movies I love unconditionally, but I'm not sure why. It's like an illiterate spouse, or a three-legged greyhound. Fuck it, I know why, it's hilarious. And the Hamlet-spoofing plot is just deep enough to keep the noggin' working. Frankly, if you hate it, I don't want to know you.

So dumb, but doesn't take itself seriously. You can't knock it for being a fun, silly story.

This is the type of film that when you watch it when you're 12 or so, you'll think of it as one of your favorites. But if you watch it as an adult, it's a little more trying. The film stays with a silly type of humor, rarely delving into anything obnoxious or non-family-friendly like so many in this genre often do. Von Sydow is comical as a Scooby-Doo villain but a few of the other characters seemed a little flat.

I like the characters a lot, but the movie has the same problem as most SNL movies in that it's clearly built around funny characters from a sketch that can't sustain a feature length story.

Shakespear this is not but entertaining this is. I've always had a soft spot for Rick Moranis and this is one of the parts that cast him into the hearts of people around the world. Strange Brew has a goofy premise but it is saved by some very cute humor and the adorable antics of Thomas and Moranis. Max Von Sydow adds some credibility to this movie and it's fun seeing him in a role like this. This movie is dripping with Canadian humor. It might be dated but it's still watchable 40 years later.

Pretty funny at best. A beauty. A hoser might say it overuses the Canadian stereotype, but what can you say, eh?

This movie was shot in a 3B - three beers and it looks alright, eh. Utterly silly, but not dumb, like most often the case is. Too good-natured for my liking, and the jokes aren't that funny. I was thinking that main characters remind me of Mac Demarco, but I'm sure I don't have enough cultural familiarity to fully appreciate Canadian Humor.

Sure, Strange Brew is not a masterpiece of comedy. Moranis and Thomas are both charming and goofy as all hell. I just like watching them because they are just having so much fun and the rest of the movie is just bonkers enough to accommodate them.

I grew up on these characters and this film. RIck Moranis and Dave Thomas are great in the lead roles in this movie. The script is silly but a lot of fun. There are a number of funny moments and scenes in this film. Overall I highly recommend this comedy.

STRANGE BREW has great potential as a low-key media satire, but is at its core a shambling spoof of a conspiracy thriller--and a pretty decent one at that. Charming performances from Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas hold everything together, and the result is a film that (perhaps inadvertently) created a template for WAYNE'S WORLD nearly a decade later.

Yes, it's a dumb movie and a lot of the humour falls completely flat, but I have a soft spot for it.

Features the most awesome painted sets you will ever see put to film along with the most heinously evil villainy plot ever. Luckily our two amazing heroes Bob and Doug (played brilliantly and not at all cornily by Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) along with their trusty dog Hosehead save the day in this fun-filled film-feast for the family. Features an awesome performance from Max von Sydow as the heinous villain.

Max Von Sydow is hilarious as the evil brewmeister trying to take over the world with his mind controlling beer that he's been testing out on local mental patients. Bob and Doug to the rescue, eh? Classic Canadiana.

Some laughs here and there but good lord did it even drag. Same jokes repeated not none stop but quite frequently. I was glad it finished. Sorry fellow Canadians but I can't recommend this as part of my culture.
