Not very funny; Pryor and Wilder get in each other's way and neither can fully blossom. And anyway, the comedy pretty much disappears for the final 30-40 minutes of it. Also, the plot is loaded with implausibilities, which might be forgiveable if it was funnier.

Drinking a gallon of milk from the same week this film was released would probably produce the same effect.

If all 80s comedies were as funny as this classic, we could just get rid of the genre and replace it with "Unfunny, implausible ambiguously gay Romp-edy".

I'm sure there are people ot there who were like, "Oh, boy. I wish Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor could have starred in every comedy in the 70's and 80's!" To those people, I say...slow down. They're good, but not that good.

Almost as stupid as it is funny. Maybe too silly. Definitely enjoyable, but you have to be in the mood for it.

Seen: 2. Tis a silly, uneven movie. It has poor timing occasionally, and doesn't lean in to the comedy near enough. But there are a few classic laughs to be found. Wilder and Pryor giving it their all make this a shaky recommendation.

Worth a watch to see Wilder and Pryor together - interesting also that it's directed by Potier.

Sadly pretty dated. Some superb moments of physical comedy buried in a rambling inconsequential plot.

A huge hit in its day that has been largely forgotten due in part to the disappearance (and later death) of its stars from the limelight and the fact that it's really just a star vehicle in which the dynamic duo persist admirably to overcome mediocre material. It's a testament to their talent that it even works at all, especially with the narrative breakdowns in the 3rd act and Poitier's lackadaisical pacing.

Not entirely bad. Just seems like a waste given the talent involved

A lot of it gets mired in the same pacing issues a lot of comedies from the era do, but Wilder and Pryor keep it from ever falling down too far. It's not a laugh riot, which makes some of the nonsensical narrative choices feel strained, but still plenty amusing for a rainy night watch.

Classic Wilder and Pryor! Those guys can make anything good, and with Sidney Poitier directing its great. Love how the humor vacillates from subtle sight gags, and word play, to over the top buffoonery. Almost like an R rated Muppets movie.

The talent of these two comedians and the chemistry they use raises this above mediocre 80's comedy.

Stir Crazy is an enjoyable comedy with some memorable performances by Wilder and Pryor which makes for some particuarly good moments. The setting may be a little stereotypical and the plotline may have a few inconsistancies and quickly flow over a couple of areas without much relativity, but the attitudes and contrasts between the prison personalities work to excellent effect.

Decent comedy that works because of the two leads.

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor will sadly never go down as one of the great comic teams of all-time, despite always being hilarious when paired together.
