Gordon Miller is rehearsing a musical comedy in the penthouse suite of Gribble's hotel...on credit. The mounting bill is driving Gribble frantic. Chaos increases when playwright Glen Russell, whose dramatic play he thinks Miller is producing, arrives. But it turns out Russell can sing like Sinatra, and Miller has leading lady Christine turn on the charm. Can Miller's crazed machinations save the show? (imdb)

A couple good songs, no good humor and a generally boring plot. I'm of a firm disposition though, that the Marx brothers' "Room Service" didn't need a remake--much less a musical remake.

Preface this by stating that I've not seen 'Room Service'. While this is somewhat rough around the edges and could do with some more refinement, it has such verve and a clear purpose to bring on the laughter (in which it mostly succeeds) that I cannot help but like it. Sinatra is just the right combination of charming and stupid as Glenn Russell but it's Miller who really brings the requisite 'crazies' (i.e. frenetic energy). I need to see more screwball musical comedies!

Young Frank Sinatra's stock is rising in Hollywood, but not the material he's getting. This was a less interesting musical remake of Marx Brothers Room Service (1938), which became more tiresome than funny. At least Sinatra smoothed the mood with his songs.
