UHF if UHF were made by Bill in accounting. Every single joke/pun/parody falls uncomfortably flat to the point I began thinking that this movie might actually be a public service announcement straight from the Pearly Gates on the horrors that await us in Hell. I have to admit, however that the Three's Company Bit tickled the nostalgia bone like Lik-a-Stik powder lodged up a nostril.

Incredible for kids, decent for the rest. At least is very original.

A great premise and some fun early 90s time capsule humor (Salt-n-Pepa, Silence of the Lambs jokes), but this has to be compared to a similar executed and far better UHF. As much as I like Ritter, the cast just doesn't really generate many laughs.

Hyams Snr did the best he could with the script he was given, which begins as a witless satire of TV addiction and its effects on the family unit and then gets stuck permanently in novelty mode. As others have noted, most of the jokes are dated as they are far too reliant on pop culture references from the time, and the whole project has a real 80's hangover vibe. Ritter and Jones are always dependable, but they were really at the mercy of mediocre material.

I remember this movie being bad, and I was an idiot kid, I can just imagine how bad it is now.

A concept that's highly appealing to kids still enthralled by the wonder of television, but almost a complete waste for everyone else.

I really liked this as a kid, and it is just charming enough (especially Ritter) to not be dreck on a re-watch.

Features the very last theatrical work of Chuck Jones and Ritter is always funny. "Eye Warship Satin" is a funny joke, I don't care what anybody says.

Better-than-average family fantasy from the early '90s, in the vein of Honey I Shrunk the Kids. It has flaws, the most significant one being that the intern was right: It really doesn't have any subtext - the criticisms are basically all one-shot points of the shallowness of television. That said, John Ritter is entirely funny and appealing, and the rest of the cast holds things together well.

Competent and bizarre 90s sketch-based parody with a framing story that actually makes some sense. Much of the humor is incredibly dated, including references to Northern Exposure and thirtysomething.

Stay Tuned is a silly but fun movie. There are a few good laughs (I especially liked Jeffrey Jones spinning records in the Salt-N-Pepa video) despite a lot of cheese.

Silly and sometimes gratingly stupid, but its a charming enough premise and has a steady supply of laughs.

This one-joke fantasy (borrowing its premise from the climax of _Shocker_) is mildly funny but works only sporadically -- like when Ritter and Dawber end up in a Chuck Jones animated cartoon of John lands on a familiar-looking "Three's Company"-like sitcom.

I really tend to like movies about TV shows, based in TV stations, or that have parodies of existing programs, and Stay Tuned takes care of the parodies bit and does it really well. The cast, including Jeff Jones and John Ritter, shine really well, and while this movie is dated, the humor still mostly holds up, and some of the parodies are really funny, like "My 3 Sons of Bitches" hehehe. I originally saw this when it first came out, and liked it then, and now laugh along with it as an adult.

Not as good as UHF as far as television show parodies, but still a funny movie with John Ritter.

I loved this movie as a TV-obsessed kid. Lots of references and dark humor like the "Diff'rent Strokes" throwaway gags still make it fresh today.

Very cheesy, but it has the right cast to pull off this kind of cheese and still be watchable. It's pretty funny with some decent performances.
