This movie will twist your mind around and back again as you try to understand the motives behind the characters and the nature behind what drives them. The real twist of this movie is only the beginning; the carefully crafted structure is worth observing.

When the ending to your movie makes everything else you just watched pointless it's more than likely the sign of a bad movie. I would say that I didn't really understand the movie, but that would mean I thought there was something to understand. The acting was quite good, too bad the script was so convoluted. It really felt more like the director was trying to be revolutionary in the way he filmed and cut scenes together than in actually trying to make an enjoyable movie that made sense.

Main existence of Stay is in cinematic realm. Forster's purpose is clearly to bind scenes in a way that hasn't been done and only possible by latest technology. There are numerous plot holes and movie does not tie to a sensible ending. Still I admire the risk he underwent for probable crash on mainstream audience, at least he is honest about it. Even if you don't care about the visual experiments at all, there is Ryan Gosling's exceptional performance to look at.

Top badass moment? Ewan McGregor looks confused so often, I thought he was watching the film himself. With its clever-clever editing, A-List cast and weird vibe, this movie has pretend-indie written all over it. But I must say I enjoyed it, although this is mainly so I can appear to be intelligent. By the way, those guys with the piano should've been wearing hard hats. And don't forget, they’ll be a test at the end to see who’s been paying attention. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

It starts promising and lead actors are really good. Smooth transitions from one scene to another are really cool and do add value to better 'psychological' part of this movie. Worse part is messy plot, even for this genre.

Quite tense movie with weak ending. Watts is good and pretty, but too skiny for my taste, and McGregor littlebit stiff. Average.

You might say it is a bit too fancy, but visually it might be Forster's best work. It was a master class on "framing", it made me stop the DVD several times. The suspense was developed very well but resolution did not follow the suite, that was the weak point of the movie, brilliant acting by Gosling by the way.

It's not that much of a mindfuck. Of course the viewer is kept with some of his own interpretations but the story is not too confusing. So I guess it's the best to follow the story without any prejudice and let the powerful pictures and the great editing do their work.

Bleah. Yet another variation on the _Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge_ gag. It doesn't help that this movie is supposed to be set in New York, but the production design and locales all scream, "Europe!"

Good cinematic work, art design and colors are not enough to make this an enjoyable watch. Main plot twist is recognizable from the beginning (or even before, from the title!). Reveal brings WTF not because it was so unexpected and good but because part of it does not make sense, eg. Henry as the main character would made much more sense; why is Sam having a flashback at the end?).

In this movie Ryan Gosling says that bad art is interesting because it documents human failure. That informed me about my love for bad movies and goes perfectly for Stay, which is quite the failure. The script seems like it has been revised and rewritten multiple times, the editing is completely lost in the dark.

I'm really not a fan of dream-like movies that contain almost no reality. It has a solution that serves basically only as a trick as it negates anything psychological that happened to McGregor's character.

Some decent shot composition (that opening shot is a stunner, the CGI has aged well) and I'm thankful for being reminded of that fucking dope-ass Peace Orchestra song. Pretty much everything else is not great. The dunder-headed plot is presented in that cutesy "bet you can't figure me out" faux-Lynchian style and I ended up fabulating a much more interesting resolution than Benioff that I won't describe because spoilers. Man, what a disappointing ending.

I enjoyed this probably more than I should have, but then again, it has a lot going for it. The acting is top-notch, the editing is super slick, the dialogue is intelligent, and I thoroughly enjoyed the clever use of visual/linguistic cues and recurring characters throughout. Yes, it constantly feels like the story's on the the edge of losing its coherence, but it always manages to take a step back before plunging off the cliff. The fact that Gosling's driving was a plot device made me chuckle.

LOVED the twist at the end! Really an original movie with amazing actors who I love to watch (Naomi Watts, Ryan Gosling and Ewan McGregor)! I especially like the scene with the dog and the mother.. where the story starts to twist in a major way. The heavy, dark undertone was the only thing that made the movie slightly hard to watch (like with requiem for a dream). They could have had some more bright feel-good scenes in my opinion...

After watching Stay for the first time, I couldn't get it out of my head. I couldn't get by without understanding it. "Getting" the film is something that I had to do, so I actually ended up watching Stay twice. The subtle transition between scenes it uses is strange at first, and it's a technique that I likely focused on too heavily on my first viewing. The acting was good, and while the story was very plot heavy, the confusing aspect to it made it something you'll want to watch again.

This is one of those excellent thrillers that leaves you deep in thought long after the movie has ended. This is like a more visually appealing version of most David Lynch movies. If you like movies with depth, great acting, great storylines and great special effects, then this movie is perfect.

I'm fairly sure I understand the film, and the end result is pretty lackluster. My opinion is that the film is largely the dying's Henry whatever's brain's 'trip before death.' MacGregor's character is real and trying to help, only not in the fantasy, but in real life. I...thought this was gonna be an emotional film involving a personal relationship between a suicidal person and their psychiatrist. It isn't. Great name for that kind of flick though.

So it was kind of a Jacob's Ladder, only the guy plays matchmaker at the end. Looks like somebody got an FX-kit for Christmas. Filled with annoyingly meretricious match cuts and similar shenanigans; I guess the fact that "it's all a dream" is supposed to make that okay.

More about the journey than the destination. The plot is iffy and the pay-off is questionable, but hot-damn this is one cool looking flick. Marc Forster (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) leaves the schmaltz on the shelf and creates a brilliant piece of atmosphere. One of the most deftly edited movie I've seen.
