This movie is a lot of things (intense, gritty, violent, realistic) but one thing it is not. It is not Goodfellas. At least Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead is fun. Everyone seems like best friends and also like they're completely ready to kill their best friends.

Undercover cop Sean Penn touches boobs and immediately blows his cover. The cast is stacked but it's just another bland gangster movie, here we go again zzz until this suddenly decides to become some Heroic Bloodshed thing in the finale all it was missing was disgusting New York pigeons flying out of Penn's ass.

Great cast. Too bad the writing is not very good, especially toward the end. Overall just a so-so crime flick.

Mr. Oldman? Stop doing Harry Potter movies and come back and do this again. Great to watch. Other than that, a pretty average film. Turturro's beard is a character of its own.

Unable to keep pace with other films in it's genre (like the same year Goodfellas). It's long and didn't really draw my attention fully. The acting is probably the best part. I liked Gary Oldman and Harris always seems underrated. Penn has been better. Just kind of an average entry in the crime genre.

Underrated gangster movie. Fantastic acting from Gary Oldman as usual, as well as Ed Harris and Sean Penn.

This concept has been done better, but it's also been done a ton worse. The cast here is unreal, with Sean Penn, Ed Harris, Gary Oldman, John Turturro, Robin Wright, and even Burgess Meredith (!) in a tiny role. All of the small roles are well filled, too. Would be a great double feature with the similar feeling Miller's Crossing or The Departed. Oldman is especially great here. The slow mo ending probably sounded better on paper, but comes off ridiculous on the screen, knocking it down some.

Populated with tough as nails characters, and whip smart writing, this film captures a realism to the often glamorized gangster movie, that you hadn't seen before this film. Stellar performances from Sean Penn, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright, Ed Harris and John C Reilly, really make this film a homerun.

There's one memorable sequence in which the gang, hidden away in an empty office building, doesn't know if there's a hit happening on Harris' character or not. Other than that it's gangster writing 101.

Pek bilinmeyen, kıyıda kalmış mafya filmlerinden. O dünyanın atmosferini ve karakterlerini iyi yansıtıyor.

Great story, great acting, great ending. A perfect example of how you tell an undercover cop film, without making the heavy emotons seem melodramatic or false, wich often is the case in films like that. But I am supprised how steril Morricones soundtrak was.

It's a shame that State of Grace is not so well remembered. It's a no-nonsense crime movie and fits snugly into a lot of familiar categories, but it's directed in style and taste, boasts a truly stellar cast, a somewhat overly repeated but affecting Ennio Morricone score, and the writing is superb despite its liberal use of genre tropes. The characters are well-rounded, dialogue is convincing, tension is high and the finale is traditional but very satisfying.

Gritty crime drama falls somewhere between GODFATHER and GOODFELLAS sensibilities but can't quite equal either film, despite a seething performance from Harris, and brilliant unhinged work by Oldman. Penn is the weak link as his motivations are never properly explored (the central twist relating to him doesn't make much sense) but film still manages to entertain. Special mention must also go to the underrated Viterelli as the crime patriach and Morricone's score, a masterpiece in of itself.

The movie itself is alright, not the best mob/action film I've ever seen. But this is definitely a must-see for any Gary Oldman fan out there, probably one of, if not his best performance ever.
