Stargirl

I liked the first act the most. I thought the setup of the Stargirl character and the main character were quite good, but I thought the movie just completely fell apart in the second act. Out of nowhere, just about everybody starts acting completely unrealistically. Thankfully that moment doesn't last long, and the ending wraps things up well enough, if in a somewhat unsatisfying way. Better than the other Disney+ movies I've seen so far (Noelle/Lady+Tramp) but not by much. Great HDR though!

I feel like there are many things wrong with this film. It has its interesting things too, some quite charming. But, like, I'm fucking tired of heterosexual romance ugh. What startled me the most tho was the moment when *spoiler* the whole school suddenly turned against her like huh? sweetie what? literally wtf was that. Besides that whole messy moment, there are many other things that are almost as baffling, but none as much tbh and the reviews can't be long so oh well.

Cheesy, but earnest. Just the way I like my movies!

Grace Vanderwaal is one heck of a talented singer, and now talented actress, and she brings a level of spirit in this movie, which is a joy to see... but as it's coming of age, it's not really about anything, narratively speaking, and that's too bad, because it was THAT CLOSE to being great.
