As this film didn't mature with them, many Gen-Xers dislike the childlike appeal of The Ewoks's Teddy Bear Revolution. But that misses Lucas's commentary on the Vietnam War & an empire losing to a foe it underestimates. At times the jokes can be corny. But cinematically this picture has the franchise's best drama, especially with the Emperor's dialogue and the Luke/Vader plot. And in addition to the best lightsaber battle, the moving final montage is a perfect way to end the original trilogy.

One of the most exciting children's movies ever made. And the end of an extraordinary adventure. Whether watched with a nostalgic or a critical eye, this is two very different experiences, but whatever one could say about the ewoks, the acting, etc., this remains a marvellously entertaining classic.

Right, the camp is often unbearable and the scenario hinges on an unimaginative retread of the first film, but it's not without a few cool and iconic designs, namely the environment of Endor, Ian McDiarmid's all-in performance of Palpatine, and Luke and Vader's rematch.

While a planet full of ewoks isn't as cool as a planet full of wookies, I still think this is a practically perfect ending to what is surely one of the best trilogies ever made. Sure, reusing a Death Star again seems a little cheap at first, but this film doesn't feel like a carbon copy of the original and manages to close everything so emotionally well and in such style, any flaws it may have can be forgiven in my opinion. I loved it from beginning to end, especially the Jedi stuff.

Following up the excellent Empire with a dungeon full of muppets, forest chipmunks defeating an army with rocks and branches, and a rehash of A New Hope's finale? Kinda weak. The good outweighs the bad, but it's still partly disappointing.

A somewhat wonky tone, questionable story elements and a tendency towards narrative and technological excess, which would later define (i.e.ruin) the series, are saved by great set pieces and strong action. The Jabba's Palace sequence kicks it off with a bang, and Marquand/Lucas/Kasdan successfully converge three plot lines in the final act without making a complete mess of it. It's perhaps too cutesy for its own good, and Hamill is wildly uneven, but it brings the trilogy to a satisfying close.

A rambunctiously fun reunion and escape sequence starts things off well, but the fresh forest setting of Endor to follow brings with it some bad green-screened flying scenes (but a decent battle later), a campy captured-by-natives tangent (the Ewoks do have their charm though), and consistently wooden dialogue. Luke's climactic confrontation with Vader and the Emperor, meanwhile, is overly simplistic and repetitive ("Join the dark side, feel the hate"; "No, I won't fight"; fight, stop, etc.).

As Shmendreck quotes from Corinthians "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, thought like a child, and reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up my childish ways." The scenes on Tatooine, with Yoda, and the final space battle/confrontation with Vader are my favorite moments in Star Wars. It's a shame that the rest of the film drags along in such a goofy manner (I'm not a fan of the Ewoks.) It's obvious that the special effects had come along quite a bit since the first film.

Lucas works best when he's delivering something we've never seen before so the 1st 40 minutes involving Jabba's palace & barge fight are as thrilling as anything in Empire or New Hope. Seeing Luke's transformation from whiny kid to Jedi master is a fun surprise, as is Jabba - 1 of Lucas' greatest alien creations. Still the rest of the film is just a bigger rehash of the original's death star attack, w/ a too good-natured Han Solo & an apparently sleepwalking Carrie Fisher surrounded by ewoks.

Considerable let-down after Empire, but nonetheless, a strong ending to a classic trilogy. The problem is that it can't decide whether to be a serious action film or a campy kid's adventure. There are darker, provocative moments that stand out: i.e. the scenes at Jabba's palace or the final moments on the second Death Star, but then we have almost all the scenes on the moon of Endor which can be painful to watch as an adult. Ultimately, moments with Luke and Vader are sincere and a saving grace.

A completely awesome rollicking adventure epic. It's campy, sure, but the first act totally detached from the rest of the film gives it a fun Saturday morning matinee feel, and as much as the Ewoks may bug me, I know that they didn't bug me as a kid. And isn't that who this is all for anyway? The Emperor was cast and conceived perfectly, and has only become a cliché villain archetype because of how flawless he was. Darth Vader's death is powerful to this day. Love it!

While Jedi is the weakest of the three in the original trilogy thanks to it's director-for-rent, many boring filler scenes, and the harbinger of worse things to come in the Ewoks, it still stands as another adventure classic in the Star Wars universe and a more than worthy end to the Star Wars franchise... if only that were the case.

Return of The Jedi is often looked at the weakest of Lucas's original trilogy. From silly gimmicks like Muppets and Ewoks, inconsistent pacing, and too many subplots. Despite this, episode six is full of memorable moments, and closes the arch to some of our favorite characters. Return of the Jedi does enough to give Star Wars fans a suitable close to the grand scale of this adventure.

The final chapter of the iconic Star Wars trilogy fails to repeat the heights of its previous installments, but still manages to be an entertaining conclusion to an epic story. Unfortunately the movie feels like two half part continuations of the former films. The first is the fun side adventure our heroes go on, seemingly independent of each other, to save Han Solo from Jabba. Once the opening adventure resets all the pieces, we resume the Jedi story line with a new Death Star as a subplot.

Star Wars sometimes rides that line between a little childish and more mature and dark. Empire was mostly dark, but this does a little bit of both. While I don't think the more lighthearted parts, like Endor, are bad, they're not what Return does best. I almost rated it a 95 though because of the last little while with Luke and Vader... riveting stuff. Besides that, just another great sci-fi flick, same elements as the previous two in the original trilogy. This is my second fave.

Return of the Jedi brings the OT to a thoroughly enjoyable finale. Growing up I loved the Star Wars films equally, but looking back Jedi doesn't quite reach the heights predecessors. That said Jedi is still a timeless and incredibly entertaining finale that features many of the best and most memorable moments in the entire Star Wars saga. The final third of Jedi though is truly staggering and the simultaneous space battle & duel between Luke Skywalker & Darth Vader is an unforgettable crescendo.

Star Wars: Episode VI -- Return of the Jedi is a strong conclusion to what wound up being a very enjoyable trilogy. While we might not have explored as much of the universe as I would have preferred, the journey that these characters went on over the course of the last three films was so enjoyable that this didn't matter. The series is still visually stunning, and while the plot of Return of the Jedi is the simplest, that works in its favor.

Ewoks aside, this is still a good movie. I didn't really get what was going on at the end though. Did Darth Vader just lose his mind and mistakenly throw the Emperor off that ledge? Why didn't they just plant a dozen or so of the charges on the outside? Seriously, the place isn't that big, and it's not like they only brought one or two charges...or was it? If you can look past all the goofy shit Lucas managed to shove into it (Ewoks, forced humor in unnecessary situations) you will be rewarded with a good ending to a great series. In fact the ending between Luke, Vader and Palpatine make for probably my favorite part of the entire series. The worst of the trilogy. I like everything except the Ewoks and the Jabba opening. Sadly, that accounts for huge portions of the film. It's an endless puppet show. Ewoks aren't funny, interesting, or likeable. They're simply annoying. And the Jabba section takes up far too much time, with an irritating musical number, little plot development, and another parade of puppets. All the interaction between Han & Leia and Luke & Vader is great. But everything else is painfully embarassing.

During the first half, it's obvious that the creators have tried really hard to deliver the ugliest film of all times. And they have succeeded. On top of that, the acting remains fairly bad (Harrison Ford the only possible exception), the effects totally unconvincing in the 21st century and the storytelling rather problematic. The film is definitely salvaged by the pretty good prolonged battle at the Death Star and Luke's confrontation with Darth Vader. Overall above par but too far from great.

This is prolly the best Star Wars movie with it's story and action. However, it really made me aware of the uselessness of Stormtrooper armor. Not only can it not even protect the wearer from one phaser blast, it can't even protect you from the sticks and stones of the Ewoks.

Almost certainly the worst of the original trilogy, but still a masterpiece of classic sci-fi. It wraps up the trilogy nicely, but with a bit of groaning at the Ewoks and, well, another Death Star.

Re-watching the original trilogy nearly 30 years later, I have to say that VI is my favorite. The action scenes and effects, from Jabba to Endor, are more thrilling than the majority of CG-filled garbage out there today. Watching a matured Jedi Luke succeed in an unconventional (welcomed, at that) "final battle", and the Rebels and Ewoks turn the tide on Endor culminates in an emotional high that is rare in sci-fi cinema.

An emotional conclusion to a space epic. Flows quite well with pieces of comedy that keep it light. I think the way it all comes together at the end is quite charming and perhaps deserves more respect following the prequels. There is actually something very special about Han not piloting the falcon in this last one, it is the drastic mark of change. It certainly helps that there are so many likable characters.

The Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts his father Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is thus redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.

This movie is the weakest one among the trilogy because it gets a bit repetitive, Luke's journey at this point gets really short and it does not have a real twists, but it does give you closure and some great classic moments too, the ewoks where a bit irritating as well. Grab the original or the fan edited one, not the terrible reedited George Lucas's version with CGI and idiotic additions

most of it in the middle was probably about as good as 'empire strikes back' but with an awful beginning and end it lowers itself to the worst of the originals. notable for tying loose ends in the most unapologetically awful way hollywood could ever conceive, and that's truly saying something.

I'd consider this the only installment in the original trilogy with some actual 'problems', for me at least. The part that takes place on Endor was a little too drawn out for my taste, especially the scenes where there's just Ewoks being... Ewoks. That said, this movie has some really great scenes, even on Endor (the bike chase scene was awesome), and the ending is so perfect that it totally makes up for these Ewoks.

Though failing to reach the cinematic heights of its predecessors, Return of the Jedi remains an entertaining sci-fi adventure and a fitting end to the classic trilogy.

The final installment in the Star Wars Saga, this movie has it's fantastic parts and it has its iffy parts.
The fantastic would be storming Jabba's palace (exacting some justice), the line "it's a trap" and the final confrontation between the Jedi and the Sith.
The iffy is the speeder chase (once again action just to have action like the pod race scene) and the Ewoks. Sorry, they are cute but not very cool.
Fantastic movie as long as the addition of the new scenes don't bother you too much.

This was the first Star Wars movie I watched as a kid. It just blew me away back then and I still enjoy it today! A great ending to an amazing trilogy.

Wonderful finale to the "original" trilogy finds usual resplendant production values, and inclusion of controversial Ewoks (a cute and welcome addition in my opinion), helping the film triumph. Along the way, the Ford/Indy persona is solidified, Hamill and Fisher seem far more comfortable on screen, and the final confrontation between Luke, Annakin and The Emperor is genuinely enthralling and moving. Opening sequence involving Jabba The Hutt also terrific. The trilogy goes out on a high note!

Disappointed that they replaced the scene where Leia partakes in an Ewok orgy (Eworgy) to secure their release *coughing up furballs for a week*

The weakest of the original trilogy, but it was still an excellent film. The final battles on Endor, at the Death Star and in the Death Star were fantastic.
