As far as documentaries of this type go, more entertaining than most. Manages to give a truly in-depth look to Kubrick as both a director and person, with commentary from tons of interesting figures (e.g. Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, but also Kubrick's family) and lots of interesting footage and photography of Kubrick and his work.

My favorite director - just wish Cruise didn't lead the narrative...

Well done documentary about the man of mystery, the man who never told so much about himself or his films.

He's my favorite director, and this documentary pretty much explains it all. It's packed full of information and insights from people you're actually interested in hearing from. A detailed look at the professional and personal life of Kubrick.

I think it does disservice to cinema history to gush so fanboyishly over Kubrick. This does not undermine the great respect I have for Kubrick's craft.

Eh, it's a nice enough documentary/retrospective on the late filmmaker. Good for if you want to talk about him, but it's not particularly insightful. Doubt Kubrick himself would have appreciated such a circlejerk. Decently made bio, but no idea why my PSI was 77.

A dutiful career retrospective that feels stuck in the moment immediately after Kubrick's passing in 1999, this documentary would have benefited from a little more time for the world to fully contemplate the mercurial filmmaker's legacy. A LIFE IN PICTURES still has moments of surprising candor, and includes a wealth of rare insight into Kubrick's early career and family life.

I had one of those "I am driven to know more about (name)" moments, and this time that person was Kubrick. A "Kubrick documentary" search immediately set me up with this, streaming online free, and it was precisely the kind of thing I was looking for: a well made film version of the man's wikipedia page + a bunch of Hollywood A-lister interviews as a bonus. It hit the spot.

A great doco on The Man. It's long for what it is, but features a sufficient amount of info behind the making of each masterpiece he did (and there were a few) -- there's even some info on the films he didn't make. I think this would be better if there were some opinions from people who didn't like some of his films -- a contrasting viewpoint is usually interesting.

This is a really amazing doc that focuses on his work more than his personal life. I wouldn't recommend watching it until you've seen most of his films though.

A thorough and - more importantly - inspiring chronology making you want to (re)watch the Kubrick classics over and over again.

Kubrick was a fascinating, immensely talented and somewhat misunderstood artist, and this doc does a decent job of letting us in to his world while highlighting each of his films. Needed more Woody Allen though.

Well presented and contains clips from all of Kubrick's work. If you're like me and adore everything Kubrick's done then this is well worth a watch, even if purely for the nostalgia and meta-film value. It's very interesting to hear the views from other top directors throughout the film. The behind the scenes footage just makes you appreciate Kubrick and his films all the more.

Amazing documentary. Lots of pictures I've never seen before, interesting dialogues and clips. I am really sorry I started loving his movies after his death.

I gained some information, but not a whole lot of insight. I didn't learn very much about the man or his movies that I didn't already know. The most interesting part of the documentary to me was learning what his actors and what fellow directors thought of him. Overall, a pretty straightforward, good, documentary. I would suggest that you be familiar with Kubrick's entire filmography before you watch this film, because otherwise it's really of little use to you.

Terrifically insightful bio, packed with interviews from the people who knew the man best: his family, his crew, his actors... What really jumped out at me was the way even the people Kubrick had antagonized (actors on set, mostly. Shelley Duvall, for example) spoke glowingly about him. He was a true master, and it seems the people in his life knew they were blessed to go along for the ride. If this biography does nothing else, it will make you want to track down his films you haven't seen.

It's a great documentary about um, Kubrick. You learn things like you should, as it tackles different aspects of his personality and movies. So what if I teared up a little bit.

Decent overview of Kubrick with some interesting stuff fans won't know about but it only made me want to watch his movies instead! I liked when Nicholson said that Kubrick told him you have to shoot the photograph of reality, not reality itself. Brilliant.
