A vaudeville star has to leave her daughter with her dead husband's stuffy Boston parents while she makes a living. But when the daughter shows some talent, the mother become a stage mother and pushes her daughter into becoming a Broadway star. Starts out nicely with Alice Brady all bubbly as a stage performer, then as a mother of a stage performer. A ambitious tiger mom forcing her daughter into the spotlight in her pushy ways and dirty tricks. All that was interesting.... then comes the fight for independence when Maureen O'Sullivan is tired of her manipulating mother and it's a bit on the lame side. At least 2/3rds was good, with Brady giving it her best and solid support popping in and out of their life.
